Writerly Ways
Apr. 21st, 2024 10:07 pmAfter yesterday the thing on my mind is you know, doing a book festival myself some day. I have an advantage. I've always had people-facing jobs and no apparent sense of shame. While I prefer my own company I can extrovert as necessary. I was left with a few thoughts a) I feel for my very introverted writer friends b) the writers feel very much like my people. For instance, I wore the T-shirt Betty gave me with pastel blues/greens/purples depicting a cemetery with the words I love taking walks in graveyards under the moonlight (paraphrasing as I'm too lazy to go look in the hamper).
I've worn this one before. No one has ever commented. Yesterday, everyone at the festival did (I wore it knowing a couple of my fellow elder goths were going to be there and I had to represent) In fact Anastasia Hastings loved it so much she referenced it in her autograph to me. My. People.
But some of my people are very introverted and yes, not every author has to do cons and book fests or even library appearances but they certainly help. I have no practical advice for this other than this: advice does exist. Give some of it a try. I think we all know that this is going to be individualized. What works for one won't for another. Good luck.
