Neat challenge. After writing for Nanowrimo all week, aiming to be wordy, changing to this nearly stripped the gears of my brain.

Buffy - anytime before Chosen - Lost Joy

Buffy’s fingers trailed over the cover of her diary. When was the last time she had even written in it? Once this had been her private joy, musing about life, recording her joys and sorrows. She had even been secretly pleased that Angel had read it, even if she had reamed him out for something he hadn’t actually done.

She had stopped writing in it when the Council mandated she needed to keep a diary. It sucked out the joy. She didn’t have time for it any how. It was just one more thing she had managed to slay.

Holtz & Connor -in Quor-Toth The Lesson

"This is boring, Father," Steven moaned, not even looking at the strange symbols Holtz had scrawled into the ashes of the fire pit.

"It’s important, Steven," Holtz said exacerbated. His son was amazingly stubborn.

"Archery, sword play, that’s important. This...this is nonsense." The young man waved a dismissive hand.

"You will do what you’re told, Steven. Learning to write will be important when we go home."

"I don’t see why."

"Trust me. That is how you write your name. You try."

Holtz grimaced at Steven’s attempt at writing. The boy was going to fight him every step of the way.

Giles - between S 6 & 7 Embarrassing

Giles was shocked to find the writing in one of his old trunks that he was sorting through. He was taking a break while Willow met with the coven as part of her rehabilitation. He held out hopes for her full recovery because the alternative was....unthinkable. He couldn’t allow a repeat of what happened after Tara’s death but how would he ever tell Buffy, Xander and Dawn that.

He looked at the sloppy, half drunken lyrics he and Ethan had scrawled on the paper back in their wannabe rocker days. "We were so bloody awful." But he couldn’t help smiling.

Angel - S 5 Uncovering Betrayal

Angel flexed his fingers, cramped from all the tiny lines of the endless forms for Connor’s internship. He was willing to indulge Connor’s good-natured laughter about his girly handwriting, a produce of a hellfire and brimstone teacher that would leave knuckles bloody if their cursive didn’t have all the swoops and loops he wanted.

Angel hadn’t even asked what the internship was in, too excited to help. Finished, he flipped back to page one and saw a law firm’s name on it. His heart dropped, realizing if not for Sahjhan, he wouldn’t have known he’d been duped until far too late.

Spike - Ats S5 Laughed At

Spike had always hidden his writing, first afraid his mother might be scandalized by him. He had hidden them from Cicely best he could, knowing everyone would laugh.

He had written poems for his dark princess until Angelus found out and made them the butt of every joke he could. Dru would wheedle until he wrote more and the cycle would continue. And now the poof tells him he’s always liked his poetry? Maybe it was time to start writing again...once he had his body back and after he was done kicking Angel’s ass for laughing at him
