Way to throw a wrench into the works
Nov. 16th, 2005 09:41 pmIn spite of it all I'm forging ahead on Nano...until tonight. I put the electric kettle on while I washed the dishes. Forgot the kettle was one and reached WAY over the counter for that straggler dish and hit the steaming spout of a gold tipped (now rimmed with flesh) kettle. There's a layer of skin I won't be seeing again for a while. I scalded my middle and ring finger from second knuckle to the tip. Can you say ouch? Yes, I thought so. My brain's screaming "mommy" and I dive my hand under the water in the sink. The hot disgusting water which of course isn't going to help matters. The rest of the brain takes over and I get it under ice water but yep, the fingers are a mess. My middle finger....now how am I supposed to express myself?
On the upside when I went to toss down another 100$ at the pharmacy, I took a side trip to the library since I ate up my last mystery and on friday I checked to see if they had Full Metal Alchemist manga since Evil Little Dog's been yapping about it and they didn't. Today, they had brand new never touched by little hands vol 1-3. Sharon the librarian tells me some kids had them special ordered and they just arrived. Well I beat the kids to it so nyah. Picked up Hellsing #1 too (well pawed thru and nearly falling apart.) This prompted a discussion with the librarian about how Hellsing is so nasty that it can't even make it onto Cartoon Network and really it's NOT YA. It's graphic novel so it must be for kids. Head desk. To be honest the FMA thing...bears only slight resemblences to the anime in some cases and not put together in the same order but whatever.

Date: 2005-11-17 03:09 am (UTC)Hee hee hee, way to score before children get hold of things. *giggle* (Wait a minute - yapping?)
But I have no idea how you're going to actually live until those fingers heal up. I mean, you talk with your hands so darn much, for you not to be hand-expressive is really going to put a crimp in your being able to talk.
*ducks*

Date: 2005-11-17 03:21 am (UTC)yapping seemed appropriate (Ed has interesting scars and I just get a giggle out of his metal toes)
oh no kidding. I bought new turquoise pin stripped pants and they have no pockets to hide my hands while I lecture so my students are laughing at me because my hands have no where to go

Date: 2005-11-17 04:13 am (UTC)I'm fascinated by the automail, myself. And the scars. I think (think, mind you) that some of the scars are from the surgery to attach the automail.
See, your first mistake was buying pants without pockets. Never, ever, ever buy pants without pockets.
And did you see the picture of the adorable Schnautzi puppy in Dave's post? Don't try to download, he posted one of the pics in a reply to me. She looks a lot like Rogue did as a baby!

So yes, electric kettles are most certainly evil.

Date: 2005-11-17 07:27 pm (UTC)tiirz tells me that the Hellsing manga is totally different from the Hellsing TV series after around episode 8 or so. But the Hellsing TV series bored me so much that I never bothered to check out the manga, even though tiirz says it's better. It's like, really violent and bloody and sexy and, um, dull.
