Now I haven't lost my mind... maybe. I'm looking at the weather for tomorrow and it says rain and then snow. Excuse me? It's been under 30 for nearly 2 weeks. Let's leave it there. I DO NOT WANT RAIN and then snow. holy shit the ice is thick enough. (the poor grounds keepers were watching me trying to get across the ice floe apologizing. We can't get it off!) Snow, go for it. Rain first, go fuck yourself Mother Nature. No one wants that.
Speaking of DNW, my students some day. So I've been preparing to flip my lab to mondays. We talked about it in Dec. We talked about it the first two weeks. Today is the first day we did it (snowed out last monday) and one of the students goes 'i have class in that time period. OMFG. WHY did you wait until now to tell me? I'm speaking with the chair/dean because in the original position upwards of half the class will miss every lab. If I move it only 1 misses, the one who didn't tell me about this class. I'm gonna go out and sleep on the ice.
I'm at the point in my reading journey where I'm not liking a book but all my friends love it and now I feel pressured.
I made a real milk hot chocolate. At least this didn't have the same weird taste to me BUT my lactose pills did nothing. Someone is playing cat's cradle with my stomach. Way to fail me
it's music monday 30 weeks of music. This week's prompt is 12 A song from the 90s. Share your faves too.
So the 90s are somehow 30 plus years ago HOW?!? and they are very different musically from beginning to end, very 80s in the beginning and much more like what was to come in the early 00s by the end.
I'll start with the pop/rock (more pop-dance if I'm honest). Why dance? Because 90-93 I was in Cleveland and when we could we would go to the Cleveland Flats to the dance clubs. Strobes lights, fog, ribbons from the ceiling, cheap well drinks and cheezy bar food buffets. It was a way to eat cheap and burn off the stress of medical school. It would find us trying to eat at a roach coach at 2 AM when the club shut down (oh that dude with the good gyros) and trying to dodge predatory professors because we had a few who knew that the lady doctor wannabes were barely tolerated and they knew they could manipulate us.
That said this Madonna one was more for dancing in the car than at the clubs
THIS song on the other hand was played almost every time I went. And often it was the extended version. By the end I was like Imma gonna die on the dance floor if this doesn't end
Compared to this song at mid decade where it started to sound decidedly non 80ish
And then there was this song straddling pop and country (or at least played on pop stations even though it's country
But oddly enough or maybe not so odd, when I was in SD I heard some country but when I moved to COlumbus I heard this song and fell in love with it
Still to this day Brooks and Dunn have put on my favorite concerts (I think I went to three if not four of them). This song made me look for more and for the next several years a lot of country music made it into my listening and I really enjoy 90s country which is funny since a lot of country music fans I know, hated this era.
And I did like some of the more old school country
but the more pop kind were my favorites
this one hits a little differently now. Where I live, this is half my students and every third house is literally this trailer.
And I loved this one that got little play and it made the MAGA type country fans (who naturally had different names back then) go nuts. They tried to end Garth Brooks' career over it
But by the early 2000s the shiny had worn off. By 2005 I was bored with country's latest offerings and between that and the increasing political side of it I walked off for the most part
here's the whole prompt list

And I have decided to do a new declutter project but rather than talk about what I'm tossing, my plan is to pick ONE thing a day to red up. Some things will get tossed. Others will be put away correctly. Etc.
today - cleared up the top of the dresser. Found many earrings that had been missing. My mother mentioned a friend of hers in NC has an abused women's shelter that takes jewelry and clothing to get these women back on their feet, give them something to wear to job interviews etc. I wonder if I have something like that hear because I need to dump half of these earrings and I don't want to toss them in the trash
