Dear Bookstore

Thank you for a) NOT ordering my lab manuals at all when I asked for 60 of them and b) telling my students they didn't NEED the lab manual so they passed on the few you did have. No, they don't need them. They only account for 25% of their grades. Argh. I could kick you all hard. Now I need to go order me up some specimens for lab, speaking of the devil.

campus bookstores are an endless sea of frustration.

Ours takes the book orders we complete, then cross-checks it with course registration, then orders the books. The glitch? Many students don't begin to think about registering until a week before classes start --- some don't register until the DAY BEFORE classes start -- and by then, the bookstore's inventory is short!

They also charge a 25% shelf fee! Students, of course, think the $$ goes to the publisher and the writer --- not knowing that most text book writers get $1/book or less, the bookstore gets 25%, and the publisher does get the rest.

Yeah I know what you mean. That's why I overordered a little knowing I couldn't really have more than 25 per class. My students learned all about the shelf fee today. I'm like WHY tell you know to buy something when they're getting the biggest cut of the pie
