On the last day of this part of the [livejournal.com profile] color_i_fic  challenge, I fall over into the end zone with my fifth fanged four 'shades of red' fic. It's just a short Angelus/Darla study called:

Intellectual Pursuits

Color - Crimson

Disclaimer - Not mine. All rights belong to Mr. Whedon et al

Pairing - Angelus/Darla

Time Line - 1759

Summary - Angelus finds a new diversion for himself and his lover.

Author’s Note #1 - This was written for the color_i_fic challenge where my challenge was fanged four fic and shades of Red and thanks to SJ for the quickie beta.

Author’s Note #2 - The British Museum did indeed open in January of 1759 in the Montagu mansion. Unfortunately I can’t find any ‘antiquities of note’ until about twenty years later so I have no real idea what was in it originally but I do know Sir Hans Sloane’s collection that started the museum had over 70,000 items in the bequest. Surely the item that captures Angelus’ imagination was not one of them since it’s my invention but the man it ‘belonged’ to was real and did everything Angelus says he did.

Gilles de Rais gave me quite a shiver. Bluch. And I like the thought of Angel teaching Darla to read.

I'm not sure I buy into him beong vaguely discomfitted by wanting to go to the theater since I suspect he was artistic well before being turned. I would think he would welcome the opportunity to indulge and considering the upscale image Darla wanted them to have, I would think she would be all for it (although I suspect she'd be bored by the reality.)

I'm sure you can make an arugment for that. I think Angelus would have always had the urges even as Liam but I suspect he might have buried them because it would probably have been something his father would have wanted him to nuture.

Gilles de Rais has always fascinated me. Buddy to Joan of Arc, slaughterer of children...

Gilles sound like quite the character.

I always figured that Liam's father was totally against his artistic leanings and that's where the original rift came from. I can't imagine him supporting a son who wanted to be an artist instead of going into business. But speculation is half the fun I think!

Oh so true. I saw part of the eppy where Kate's dad died this morning as I got ready for work and it almost seemed like Angel's dad almost didn't realize just how bad the rift was. Did one's low expectations make the other act the way he did or did how one act cause the low expectations. I could probably spin it either way

Neat--and I liked the way Angelus is still unsure of himself here; not too many writers do anything with that period of his unlife.

you know they really don't. I don't either for that matter. Lots of research to do it right (not that much went into this little thing but I'm just saying...)
