Eeep coming back from Spring Break sure ate up my time.
Connor/ Holtz S3 - Morning Song
Steven peered out the hotel window, pushing aside the dusty curtain. He cocked his head, listening. He hadn’t heard anything like this before; high-pitched, noisy and yet pretty at the same time.
“Is there a problem, Steven?” Holtz asked.
“That noise, what is it?”
Holtz smiled. “Birdsong. I’ve missed the twittering of wrens.”
“Dangerous?” Steven’s fingers inched towards his knife.
“No, Steven, just birds greeting the dawn.” A wistful expression settled on Holtz’s face.
Steven remembered stories Father had told him. Birds, flowers, crystalline blue skies, all things Father had made him long to see. “Show me please, Father.”
Spike/Dru - Pre-series Canaries
“Not another one, Dru.” Spike’s shoulders slumped as he saw the caged canary.
Dru put her finger into the cage, trying to coax the yellow bird onto it. “It makes the prettiest sound, like sunshine in my heart.”
Spike put his hands on her slender waist, kissing the back of her neck. “You don’t need that, luv. You’re made for darkness.”
“Sing for me,” Dru cooed to the bird, ignoring him.
The canary landed on Spike’s head, tearing loose some bleached blond hair. Spike yelped, fully intending to help the bird to die faster than they usually did under Dru’s care.
