Well tomorrow I head back to OH. Yesterday we went to the lake for the holiday. Seriously, some people are beach people, I'm a lake person. Didn't matter that the water was only 60 odd degrees, I was in it. It was a good time for all my aunt's non-stop complaining.

went to see the X-Men movie tonight with my parents. Spoilers under the cut.

Okay, yeah it wasn't as good as the first two but I still enjoyed this and so did the Rents. Did I wish there were more characer development? Yes, especially of Warren. He was lovely to look at but rather wasted. This was a short movie. there would have been time.

Did I wish they hadn't wasted Rogue? Yes. SHe was nearly totally pointless in this movie and that was a shame

Did they surprise me? Oh yes. There were twists I wasn't expecting.

But it was fantastically imagined with the FX and it was enjoyable enough. I was leery of Kelsey Grammar's inclusion as Beast but I liked him. You could see he was having fun. I wish the director would have had Berry back of the Bitch Button since Storm was unbearable but since I don't think much of her as an actress maybe he did the best he could with what he had to work with. Phoenix's outfits made her look like she robbed a goth mutant's closet. They didn't suit her.

Oh and the trailer they showed for Ghostrider looked cool and I don't even like Nicholas Cage

I was so thinking "Anna, call me! I'll give you a much better role!" every time she appeared on screen. Of course, if wishes were horses...

I made my feelings about the movie very clear in my review... But you know, I think this is the kinda movie that's going to grow on me the more I see it (and I will see it again, 'cause I'll buy it on DVD, since I'm a rabid X-fan and I'll see it on the movie network).

I think I was pretty burned my spoilers. I had heard most of the big plot twists, so that sucked some enjoyment.

i didn't read your review yet since I was unspoiled entirely for this. LIke I said for the most part I enjoyed it with the exceptions already noted. Given the sheer amount of problems bringing this one to screen I was surprised it was as good as it was. I did wonder why they chose to not use Nightcrawler this time

I've heard many different reasons, none which make my Nightcrawler-loving heart happy:

(1) Alan Cumming really hated the makeup process.
(2) They didn't want to have THREE blue mutants, since they were introducing Beast (it's also the reason they refused to bring in Gambit, sayig his "personality was too much like Wolverine and his powers too much like Cyclops").
(3) They couldn't think up a good plot for him (hell, they couldn't think up a good plot for a lot of people).

I wish they had at least put in an explanation for his absence. I heard they put it in the video game... But to get that, that means I have to BUY and PLAY the video game.

an explanation would have been nice. but I am highly offended that they don't seem to realize that a lot of people seeing the movie are already X-Men fans and would have NO trouble with three blue mutants and can tell Gambit from the others.

Apparently, movie producers believe their audience are simpering morons who can't tell the difference between Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammar in a huge suit and Rebecca Romijn.

I know I'm always getting them confused.

I told my parents sthis and they nearly stroked laughing. Mom's like they figure kids could tell the difference on the cartoon but adults CAN'T at the movies?

Ah, but on the original cartoon, Nightcrawler only appeared twiced and on Evolution Mystique and Beast were only reoccurring. So those kids wouldn't get confused. It would be DIFFERENT in a movie....

.....

*biggest eyeroll ever*

If they were so worried, they could have handed out cheat sheets at the door:

Nightcrawler=Skinny, has tail, German accent
Beast=The big one who sounds like Sideshow Bob
Mystique=Boobies

And you know, it's not like it's a coincidence Nightcrawler and Mystique are the same colour... Duh, they're mother and son. And if they were sweating it SO much, they could have gone for Grey-Beast (granted, it's not as well known, but hey *shrug* They had him in his human for in X2).

And just on the Gambit thing.... I dunno WHAT the producers are thinking... Gambit and Wolverine are NOTHING alike. I mean, yeah... They're both more on the fringe of the X-Team, but wildly different in their roguishness. I mean smooth Cajun charm vs barely buried animalistic nature? They're like on different continents of roguishness.

Sorry. My comic book geek is forcing its way. Is it any wonder I have absolutely no problem writing Andrew?

none. that's what i was thinking, look I've been reading X Men since it practically came out, never once was i confused (unlike the manga I'm reading now which is really WTF?) THIS is what happens when you let money men who know nothing of the fandom run the show

I've only been reading the X-books since 2000 (Yeah, I'll admit it... I got into X-Men regularly after the first movie. Prior to that, I only watched the cartoon). In those six years, I've been able to learn pretty much everything that happened in X-Men since 1963 and been able to followed every single bit. It's honestly not that hard. Even the casual fans I know are able to follow it. I mean, yeah... My brothers don't know what a Fastball Special is... But they sure as hell can tell the difference between Henry McCoy and Kurt Wagner.

My mom funnily enough was a huge fan of the cartoon and that started her reading the books. She's a big Wolvie fan. Even if you were slightly confused Kurt has a tail, Hank is furry

I'm a lake person, just like you! I'm always in the water*g*

So was it worth watching in the theatre then? I'm such a huge fan, but the reviews I have seen aren't that good.

One a side note. Reborn Desires is back up at it's original location, but I've made a board for it now, so author's can post their fics on their own. I created a sub-board for you, I'd love for you to join and add your newest stuff!

http://reborndesires.proboards107.com/index.cgi

I do hope to see you there!

i'll try to get something up there. I'm barely writing these days

Oh and the trailer they showed for Ghostrider looked cool and I don't even like Nicholas Cage. My reaction exactly. I can't stand him, but the movie looks interesting from the trailer.

I pretty much felt the same about X3 as you. It was entertaining, and the effects were fun, but it left much to be desired.

Yeah I can't stand Cage but it looked like it might not be bad
