So I headed to Columbus to check out “Altered States” display at the Riffe Gallery and to go to the Franklin Conservatory. I went there first. I had forgotten how much money was located on Broad Street in the 1880's. Damn those homes are gorgeous and regentrification has really progressed since I lived there.

The Conservatory is very nice, filled with Chihuly glass in addition to the plants. Sadly my camera is eating batteries at a rate I’ve not seen. It was fine when I was at [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog’s but since then it barely makes 24 shots. I need to check it and see what’s up with that and I didn’t think to bring extras since I forgot that detail. Sigh. I did gets some pictures. I’ll upload on Monday. Unfortunately I only got one of what I went to see, Branching Out Stick sculptures by Patrick Dougherty. And it crapped out just as I hit the butterfly room. Pouts. I’ll just have to go back. I was going to buy a bonsai since I'm interested in that. But the only thing in my price range was a starter juniper but I'm not that interested in them. The rest were in triple digit price range. I think not. Weird but true, there was a bonsai sale out of back of a pick up truck just before the beltloop in Columbus. I didn't see him in time to stop.

I ended up never getting to the Riffe gallery (I also postponed a trip to Greenlawn cemetery because of the camera). I knew it was on 77S High St so I didn’t call for direction since I know High well. Oddly North of the State St intersection it’s N. High but the next intersection is 206 S High so where the hell was that gallery? Inside Kaufmanns? I’m betting yes it was in that fancy mall. I didn’t bother with it because I cheaped out. 2$ a half hour to park? I just wasn’t that interested.

So I headed north to the mall. Surprisingly B & N didn’t have much manga that I wanted but there was this sweet young Japanese girl who was thrilled I had Bleach in hand. She told me the graphics were really cool. And I said yes I know. ‘No I mean the script’ Ah which [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn I think answers part of your language questions. In reading things like Bleach I’m seeing that what your name LOOKS like might determine which script you use since sometimes it’s not ‘pretty.’ She came back a few times to make suggestions (in fact, feel free to make manga suggestions yourselves)

B& N DID have Indigenous’s new cd Chasing the Sun I can’t believe I’ve been listening to their music for 11 years. I used to hang out with them in SD after their gigs. I’m listening to the cd now and if you like Blues, get this. It’s great.

I hit the mall and got myself a Living Dead doll (I collect them) called Rain. She has angel wings. I’ll try to take a pic of her. I got more manga at Waldenbooks including (well actually MOSTLY) things I’ve not seen before including something they’re mailing to me free of charge since they were out. I got their membership. I usually say no to either Borders or B & N because it’s been a while since Borders has been convenient and B & N wants 25$ for very little return. Borders is free with money back as you buy. Go Borders/Waldenbooks. I re-established that Lane Bryant has ugly clothes and nothing that’s good for a heavy professional woman. For a day at the beach yes, for looking like a professional, not a chance.

I went back to Max & Erma’s and learned that their sandwiches were much better than their meals. I was disappointed. When I got home the starved female cat gave me a present, her two kittens. Sigh. WTH am I going to do with them (besides get booted from here for having them) I managed to snag and hold them. They didn’t like it but I’m going to try and bring them back from feral as much as I can while I call that shelter. They ate solid food so I’m thinking they can all be adopted. I should buy a cat carrier this weekend.

Now I’m off to listen to Blues, drink beer and write smut.

Well, I'm not sure at this point whether to wish you a happy birthday or pat you on the back and say "There, there you poor dear." But since you'd probably slap my head off if I did the latter, I'll go with the former. Happy Birthday!

Oh, I would. I love conservatories, and the more bizarre and exotic the plants inside the better. I'm not going to go smell the giant arum next time it blooms, though. That's a little too exotic for me.

the plants weren't THAT exotic if you live in FL (since two rooms had stuff you'll see living there) but the flowers + Chihuly was nice and the butterflies were just lovely. I wish my camera wouldn't have crapped out then and Oh, I forgot to mention they did a bonsai with LANTANA!!

Lantana stinks so bad when you touch it, never mind clip it, that whatever possessed anybody to try making it into bonsai? That's insane. I'm still thinking that trying that bonsai begonia from the Logee's catalog would be fun. And definitely still considering bonsai-ing the Minette basil (cheat! cheat!) Or topiary-ing it. At least the clippings would smell nice.

that was my thought about the Lantana. It smells like cat pee.

I did like that bonsai begonia too. go for it with the basil

A very happy birthday to you!

And I love the Franklin Conservatory. I was there in early May just after the butterfly exhibit opened and took my usual ten gazillion photos (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v133/marjie35/Ohio/Franklin%20Park%20Conservatory/2005-05-06/), heh. It's an interesting place to go to in the different seasons, so much tends to change.

thank you.

If i lived closer I'd get the year membership and thanks for sharing. Do you remember what that orange cthulu looking thing was on page 3. And you got pictures of the sculpture outside that looked like a ring of people. That's the one I was so disappointed I didn't get!
