And the birthday rolls on
Jun. 17th, 2006 05:51 pmFirst off, THANK YOU to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. It's very much appreciated.
Secondly, check out the written prezzies!
From
myfeetshowit a hysterical Connor drabble incorporating my earlier pain into the theme.
That’ll Impress Her, Connor
And from
mjules an incredibly sweet father-daughter story for Maes Hughes and his little girl, Elicia from FMA. Even if you don't read/watch Fullmetal Alchemist, check this out since it's totally acessible to anyone who loves father-daughter stuff. Time in a Bottle
I had to get up early (because the post office ten miles away closes early) so I could see the 'two parcels' that came while I was gone yesterday and I thought all the people who would send gifts already had with the one exception I knew about. I was right. Turned out it was books I had ordered for myself.
I took myself to the opening of the Celtic Festival at Rio Grande (nothing like being on campus on the weekend). THere is one thing cool about my university, we are the ONLY Welsh language teaching center in North America. So Celtic Fest is big here. Big, being relative. The Irish Fest in Dublin (OH, i'm not so lucky as to get to go to the namesake town) later this year will dwarf it but it was what I expected. They had a lot of bands. I got to listen to a pipe and drum corps (I can't resist a man in a kilt and if he can make my spine shiver with amazing grace on the pipes, all the better). Heard another Irish band that I didn't get the name off. Drank something called 'beltaine meade' because the Welsh Tea was just someone with hot water and Bigelow supply. She did however have good bara brith (sort of a 'banana bread' using currents). Found some welsh pan cookies (but the big vender one I knew from WI didn't show).
I then roamed around the small group of vendors. Got myself a spiral triskele to make into a necklace and a pentacle toe ring and something for flippy for Christmas (it's cool)I also picked up a ceramic disk (pendant) with triskele and florals. THis woman also had Cernunnus and Goddess statuary (and incense burners) that I've not seen before, green man masks and ogma stones. If i hadn't spent so much yesterday I would have bought more for me and for the holidays. There was someone who had wood work in celtic designs but the stuff in my price range hung in windows and I'm not really set up with a good window for that and the stuff I really liked was 200+. I did pick up some Welsh Tea (all written in Welsh too).Good since I was totally out of UK tea (American tea can not compare)
I came home and saw the parents called while I was out. Mom apologized for not calling at 145AM. She fell asleep. She likes to wake me up at that time since I kept HER up being born at that ungodly hour. But since I'm usually still awake, she's always disappointed.
The rest of the day was filled with laundry (but the library next door had all the Bleach's up to the most recent one so I snagged them and I am happy). I bought crab legs for dinner, a roasted chicken, key lime cheesecake and mudslides. All that for under 25$ (compared to yesterday's meal which was more than that with tip and I won't be able to eat on for three days. This is why I cook). Sadly the cheesecake is frozen but the ones in the bakery were more than the king crab legs (let's think on this, crab legs = deadliest job in the world, cheesecake = someone milked a cow, look at prices, nope makes no sense) and I can't eat a huge cake by myself (well i could but I shouldn't)
Hee my brother's calling on callwave as I type this, laughing at me because I only have ONE year before I'm forty. I'll need to kick him butt next time I'm home.
