He never meant to have a cat. It wasn’t as if his flat allowed them or that he had time for pets. Still, the late nights when he’d hurry home for safety’s sake, the black and white Tom would stalk him, crying for food. At first Giles ignored the beast. Soon the cat became company on those long nights worrying about Buffy. Giles had tried to make him into a house-cat but the beast wouldn’t have anything to do with that. Giles had seen a lot of death but the day the cat got hit by a car, he cried.

“I did so have a cat growing up,” Connor argued over his beer, glaring at his Scoobies reunion companions. Willow had thoughtfully invited what was left of Angel’s crew.

“Son, you grew up in a hell dimension. There were no cats,” Angel said wearily.

“Father said it was,” Connor huffed. “It was cute, fluffy with stripes and these wicked little horns. I loved that cat.”

“It’s like listening to Spock explaining his childhood pet to Bones,” Xander said.

“Cats don’t have horns,” Dawn said.

“Well at least I didn’t accidentally impale my cat with a crossbow,” Connor shot back.
