So I went to the Mothman Festivalin Point Pleasant today. It was slightly larger than last year but not by much (and the larger was mostly non-mothman related crap for kids). It was a nicely cool day and the usual suspects were all there. the paranormal talk show The paranormal talk show had a booth, Rosemary Ellen Guiley was there again and I got to speak to her once more. She’s got a new book coming out in about two weeks, The Encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy. She’s also looking for Shadowman stories and you can check out her website, Visionary Living and email her with them. I’m telling her about the one in [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog’s old house.

I got the mothman sweatshirt mom wanted and the t-shirt my brother wanted plus the overly priced Derenger tapes (the ones the Mothman Prophecies were based on) because I know my brother would like them. Got a tacky ceramic mothman for the office.

I met up with Susan Sheppard and her spokesperson (who is really the sweetest woman) and picked up some information on the Haunted Parkersburg Tours
and I’m thinking of that for Halloween. We talked about Waverley Hall (which will be put into the FMA universe for a Halloween story this year from me) and some other local hauntings, like the Lowe Hotel which I didn’t find much in my first investigation.

I also met up with The Prodigy Group and hope to meet up with them again in the future to do a little work. I also met up with a group that did a new 90 minute documentary on the mothman due out in Nov.

Unfortunately the talks I listened to at the river front were pretty much identical to the ones I had heard before. I know there’s probably not much new to say about an event that happened 40 years ago this year (which really that ought to have made for a big ta-do) but for almost word for word renditions of last years speeches it was disappointing.

I did, however get to meet Linda Scarberry, one of the teens originally menaced by the Mothman so that was cool. And I went into the Mothman museum because how could I resist? It was a lot of movie props and a lot about the silver bridge that collapsed in 67. They had a media screening room but I couldn’t go in there...not that it was crowded but there was something in there that was glaring at me so I figured I didn’t need to mess with that spirit.

I also went into an antique mall that was so cool but overpriced (300$) Chinese dragon ‘porch’ furniture. Well it did look like it had been badly weathered. It was all wood, the back carved in Asian floral patterns and all the arms (two chairs, one two seater couch) ended in dragon faces. The seat cushions were totally flat, shot and at one time red. I might check back to see if the price goes down. To hell with Antique Roadshow, it’s ugly as is. But something to remove the wood scratches and reupholstering and it would be a cool set.

The tackiest thing I bought....a Mothman Frappucino. Well I thought that was just a marketing scheme but no. They used that magic shell chocolate to make wings and used cherries for big red eyes. HEE. On my way out I ran into TH the chem prof and his friend as they were heading in. We talked hauntings had TH’s friend told me about an abandoned mental hospital in WV where they used to do lobotomies that their friend had strange encounters at. Now they’re encouraging me to go...which would require a tad bit of trespassing. I tell this to mother that with my luck I’d end up falling thru the floor or arrested and she’s like, don’t let that stop you. So if I disappear you know what happened to me.
