A triptych of father and son post NFA drabbles

Connor & Angel Post NFA - Aftermath of Blackthorn

“I guess you could consider her a veteran of the most dangerous war there is,” Connor said, lying a white spray of snapdragons and carnations before Cordelia’s headstone. He stood back, tears fringing his eyelashes, glistening in the moonlight.

Angel draped a big, bruised hand over his son’s shoulder, looking at the memorial. “I’m sorry for everything that happened back then, son.” He should never have left Connor and her cohabitate. He should have known the effect it would have on a naive teenager.

Connor nodded. “We have to get flowers to Wes, Fred and Gunn’s graves. Let’s go, Dad.”

Connor & Angel Post NFA - Remembering Darla

Neither of them wanted to stay in California after Blackthorn. They had taken to the road, just traveling aimlessly at first and now with a mission. Virginia, so his boy could see where Darla had grown up. He didn’t know where her grave was - or even her real name - so they had stopped at a church. Angel didn’t know if either of them believed fully in a God but Connor looked peaceful under the multi-colored stained light as he lit a candle in memorial and draped a rosary of tiny red rosebuds - like blood drops on silver chain - around the votive.

Connor & Angel Post NFA - Meeting the Family

Connor knew Angel was watching from the shadows, probably wondering what he was doing in this old graveyard. Well, probably not wondering since they had taken the time to remember their friends and his mother on their travels. Here in Galway, how could Connor stay away? Memorials for these people were two centuries and more in the past but he could feel them as close as skin. He set the grapevine wreath decorated with tulips and yellow roses by the crumbling headstone. “Hello, Kathy. I’m Connor, your nephew. It’s nice to meet you at last. Dad’s told me all about you.”
