After the experience in the frat house, Willow wasn’t sure she wanted to the guiding light spell again. Still, it could be a useful spell, and she couldn’t let fear rule her. After all, her spell probably had worked just fine but it was that silly little fear demon that had turned the guiding light into a menace.
Willow summoned the guide, watching the glow illuminate her fingers. She had always looked to the horizon to find a place where she fit in; college. Now she had another group to belong to, witches. Magic made her feel at home.
Faith looked at the sad lights around the window of her hotel room. The winking multicolored strand seemed to mock her. Why had she told Buffy she had some grand party to go? Why did she always try to show up the older Slayer? A real family holiday at the Summers’ was the best offer she had in years. Mostly, with her mom, it was whatever the woman got at the bar if she even remembered to come home.
Maybe that’s why she had said no. Faith had never known a real family. She wouldn’t fit in. Faith felt so alone.

Steven took that knowledge and picked off anything heading into the hollow after those lights. Food, leather, these were things he and Father needed and he was a good son. Those winking lights meant they wouldn’t go hungry tonight. Father would be so proud. Steven smiled.
