A little bird told me
southernbangel wasn't feeling so good so here's a little holiday ficlet for her. Hope you're feeling better soon.
“I remember when this first came to the stage,” Angel nodded at the TV screen where Patrick Steward was putting out the Ghost of Christmas Past with a huge cast iron candlesnuffer. “It truly affected me. I hated Scrooge.”
Buffy stirred her hot chocolate with a peppermint stick, snuggling against him. “Why was that?”
“He reminded me too much of my father,” Angel admitted. “The only difference between them was of course my father was married. I always thought of him as a greedy, grasping man, bent on making my life hell.”
“Do I hear a ‘but’ in there?” Buffy squeezed his hand.
“Having Connor made me realize maybe Dad wasn’t so bad, that he made the mistakes he did because he wanted the best for me,” Angel said. “I’d like to tell him I understand now.”
“Your own Scrooge epiphany.” Buffy smiled at him. “That’s sweet. This story used to scare me when I was little, especially the Ghost of Christmas Future. Mom always sat up with me afterwards.”
“When he comes on, I’ll hold you and keep you safe,” Angel promised.
Buffy kissed him. “I love the sound of that.”
