Distill Desire Upon the Eyes

Love comforteth like sunshine after rain
Shakespeare – Venus and Adonis

Elicia curled along Al’s side, not quite ready to be awake. The young alchemist watched her boyfriend sleep. He looked so relaxed, so like his old self when he slept, cuddled up in a pale blue sheet, which was sprinkled with cat hairs. She wished he knew how to relax when he was awake but that was where all the hardships trickled back to haunt him.

She couldn’t even truly call Al her lover. They might have been sleeping together off and on now at his place for a few weeks but that’s all they did; sleep. Elicia understood why; Al’s wife had died as a result of her pregnancy. Three years later, Al still mourned Sciezka and wasn’t quite ready for sex because he blamed himself for her death. Understanding it was one thing but it wasn’t any less frustrating for her.

Leaning down, Elicia planted a soft kiss on his lips. It was going to be a lazy day with neither of them having to work, which suited the cats at the foot of the bed just fine. It might be a time to try and move their relationship forward. Al’s eyes slowly fluttered open as she sucked on his bottom lip. She felt it pull into a smile under her mouth. She sat back. “Morning,” she said throatily.

He reached up and stroked her wavy hair back off her shoulders. “That was a nice way to wake up.”

“Could be nicer,” Elicia purred, smoothing a hand down his belly towards the tops of his boxers.

Al caught it, pulling her hand back up to his chest. “Elicia....I...”

She maneuvered on the bed so she could look down on him. The cats glared at her as Elicia decided it was time to have a serious talk. “Al, I know some of what you’re afraid of but there’s more, isn’t there? You’ve built a wall around us. Have you even told your brother we’re dating?”

Al looked away. “No.”

“Are you ashamed of me?” Elicia asked quietly, dreading the answer. What if he said he was? She felt so alive around him that she didn’t know what she’d do if Al didn’t feel the same way.

Al’s hazel eyes opened wide and his face lost color. He sat up like a shot, catching her shoulder. His cats jumped off the bed, registering their protests loudly. “No! Hell no, Elicia. I’m not...I’m just feeling lost and afraid, but I’m trying. I really am.”

Elicia buried her fingers in his honey brown hair. “I know you are and I know it’s hard. But I also need you to understand that I love you.” She let that hang in the air. It wasn’t the first time she had said it or even the second but it felt scarier now as opposed to mumbling it half asleep just before they both dropped off.

His fear was almost palpable as Al whispered, “I know. I love you, too.”

“I want us to be a couple. I want to make love to you.” Her hand slowly smoothed over his bare back.

Al trembled under her touch. “I feel wrong, somehow. I’m still so rough and hurting inside. You deserve better for your...you know.” He flushed.

Elicia’s cheeks pinked, realizing he was laboring under a false impression. She crossed her arms over her chest, hugging her green cotton gown close. “I’m not a virgin, Al. Maybe I shouldn’t just come out with it like that but it’s true.”

Al managed to find a deeper shade of red. “Oh.”

“And I know you’re still hurting and I don’t care about that, Al. It’s not going to chase me off. I want to help you through it,” Elicia said, very softly as she rubbed his back.

“Thank you.” Al leaned in for a kiss. “You’re so very special. Do you know what?”

“Of course.” She flashed him a cheeky grin. “But I like hearing it.”

Al snorted, looking away then back again just before he flung his arms around her. “I’m still not ready, Elicia, but...I’m getting there.”

“I said I’d wait and I mean it,” she said as one of his tabbies reclaimed the bed.

“I can do something though.” Al played with a bow on her nightgown. “I don’t want you to think I’m ashamed of being with you or that I’m hiding you. I’ll talk to Ed about us.”

“Oh good, Al. He worries about you, you know. He’d be happy to see you moving on a little,” Elicia said gently.

“I know he does and I’m moving on, honestly. It feels good. You make me feel good.” Al kissed her.

“Good,” Elicia kissed him back. She knew no matter how long they lingered in bed today that it wouldn’t go further than snuggling but now she had hopes Al was healing. His heart had been laced back together and that made her heart sing.

“You look very happy,” Gracia said, cutting up apples while Elicia rolled dough.

“I think Al made a huge breakthrough this morning,” Elicia said, setting aside the rolling pin.

Gracia looked up from the cutting board. “Oh, really?”

“He’s out telling Ed about us and I think he might be ready to...” Elicia blushed a little. That sort of thing wasn’t easy to talk about with her mom.

“Yes, well,” Gracia cleared her throat. “That’s a good thing.” She wore an excited expression as if she were already buying baby clothes.

“I think so. At least now, provided Ed doesn’t flip out, Al and I can go out more in public without him being stressed,” Elicia said as Daiman cruised into the room, eyeing the half done pies. “But I can’t imagine Ed would have a problem with me.”

“I’m hungry,” the teen announced loudly as if expecting them to drop everything and feed him.

“You know where the ice box is, Daiman. We’re busy,” his mother told him tartly and Alex Louis’ son - already taller and broader than Roy or Ed - lumbered to the icebox to rummage around.

“Hurry it up, Ox. We’re trying to have a conversation,” Elicia berated her half brother.

“Yeah, like I want to hear about your love life.” Daiman gave a full body shudder, his golden curls swaying over the tops of his broad shoulders.

“Mom!” Elicia picked up a ball of dough, considering chucking it at her brother.

“Daiman, try not to ruin your appetite for dinner,” Gracia said, trying to hurry him along.

Daiman snorted. “Like that’ll happen.” He grabbed three apples and headed out.

“You’d save him time and effort if you just put an ice box in his room, Mom,” Elicia said sourly.

“Don’t give him any ideas, Elicia. He’s already eating us out of house and home,” Gracia groaned, setting aside her knife.

“He picks my garden clean, too. I’m going to set booby traps in the tomatoes.” Elicia’s eyes gleamed wickedly.

“Your father would be so proud,” Gracia said and Elicia snorted. Gracia just shook her head.

“I’m sure. Anyhow, I think maybe finally Al and I are moving forward.”

“I hope so, dear. You both deserve some happiness,” Gracia’s green eyes fixed on Elicia and she smiled. “Besides, I’m getting tired of waiting for grandkids.”

“Mom!” Elicia flushed. “Take it up with Alphonse.”

Both women paused at that inadvertent comment, remembering how Al had lost his wife.

Gracia reached for another apple. “I think for now, I’ll just harass you, dear.”

“Lucky me,” Elicia grumbled good-naturedly.

“There’s something I have to talk to you about, Ed,” Al said, still pinned to the battered couch by his niece and nephews; three blond terrors every bit as volatile as their parents.

“Come on, kids, go to the game room,” Winry said, shoving them off gently while balancing a tray of lemonade. “Mommy and Daddy need to talk to Uncle Al.”

The kids protested but slowly vacated the room, as if seeing Al was a rare occasion maybe never to be repeated instead of a weekly occurrence.

“What’s up, Al?” Ed asked as Al took a glass of lemonade. “Is something wrong?”

“No, it’s a good thing,” Al assured him, pulling a toy train out from between the couch pillows where it had been poking him. “I’ve been seeing someone for a couple of weeks and I wanted to share that good news.”

“Al, that’s wonderful.” Winry hugged him then sat down wearily next to her husband. Al couldn’t help noting that no matter what, Winry always looked tired. Between three kids and her automail shop - and putting up with some of Ed’s antics no doubt - he didn’t blame her.

“Who is it? Anyone we know?” Ed’s eyes danced with inner fire as he leaned forward, elbows on his knees. Al could see just how right Elicia was. Ed had been worrying a great deal about him.

“Elicia,” Al replied nervously. The look on their faces validated his worries.

“Hughes?” Ed blurted out. “You’re dating little Elicia?”

Al eyed his brother sourly as Winry slapped him. “For one, she’s hardly little any more. She’s in her twenties, brother.”

“Why’d you decide to go after her?” he asked, wrinkling his nose, then added, “Hughes would kill you if he knew.”

“Ed!” Winry reprimanded him as if his rude tone was something new to Al.

“You have it backwards. She pursued me,” Al said with a smile.

Ed snorted, sitting back. “Does she make you happy, Al?”

Al nodded enthusiastically as Zachary and Aaron started whooping in the game room. “Very much so.”

“That’s what counts,” Ed said, seemingly satisfied.

“I’m very happy for you, Al,” Winry said as something crashed in the other room. Groaning, she went to see what her children had done now.

“Winry looks tired,” Al said softly then leaned forward whispering, “You didn’t get her pregnant again, did you, Ed?”

“Damn, I hope not. Certainly taking every precaution.” Ed tugged on his braid. “One more kid and I’ll be volunteering for a long recruiting mission in Xing.” Ed peered around, hoping Winry hadn’t walked back in unexpectedly.

“Perfect. I’ll get stuck with your kids while Winry goes after you to murder you.” Al winged a couch pillow at him.

“But they love their Uncle Al,” Ed smirked, catching the pillow.

“Don’t even consider it.” Al wagged a finger at Ed.

“You should bring Elicia over for dinner,” Ed said then thought it over. “Better yet, talk Gracia into babysitting and we could all go out for dinner and maybe a show.”

Al beamed. “That sounds like a good idea.”

“What’s a good idea?” Winry asked, coming back and collapsing next to Ed.

“Getting a baby sitter and going out with Al and Elicia,” Ed replied, wrapping an arm around her.

Winry’s face brightened. “That sounds lovely.”

“How about this Friday?” Al suggested.

“Perfect.” Winry got back up and kissed Al’s cheek. “I really am happy for you, Al. Now why don’t you and Ed take the kids outside to play before they wreck the house more than alchemy can fix?”

Al laughed and went to round up his niece and nephews.

“You have plans for tonight?” Roy asked as Al dropped some paperwork on the school president’s desk. Roy groaned wondering just what he’d have to do to escape paperwork for good.

“Elicia and I are going out,” Al said cautiously, wondering how Roy would take the news that he was dating the man’s niece in all but blood.

Roy smiled. “About time. I was speculating on how that was going. She’s been playing it close to the vest.”

Al’s jaw dropped. What kind of sources did the man have? “You knew?”

“Since probably before you did. I know my niece very well, Alphonse,” Roy replied, setting aside his pen. He refused to sign one more thing today.

Al sat in the thickly padded, designed to impress, leather chair in front of Roy’s desk. “I can’t help but wonder if Maes would have approved.”

Roy snorted. “Compared to her last boyfriend? Trust me, Maes is still haunting that one.” Roy tugged on his collar, a hint of blush on his cheeks. “Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that.”

Al shook his head. “I knew she had one, just can’t think of who it was.”

“Just trust me, Maes would not have approved.” Roy looked at the clock. “Can’t I go home yet?”

“Do I need to get Riza and her gun in here?” Al laughed as Roy favored him with an Ed-like pout. “A few minutes more. I’m waiting on Ed. He and Winry are going with me and Elicia.”

Roy’s eyes got huge. “I’m not babysitting, am I?” His chair squeaked against the floor as he shoved back from the desk, ready to bolt.

Al rolled his eyes. “Would Ed trust you with his kids?”

“Ed, no. Winry, yes,” Roy fretted.

“Gracia’s doing the honors,” Al said, looking up as he heard someone behind him. However, it wasn’t Edward.

The young man with walnut hair and his father’s black almond eyes lounged against the door. “Hey, Dad, hi, Al.”

Roy’s face lit up. “Mark. You’re home early. I wasn’t expecting you until tomorrow.”

“I got done with rehearsal and figured I’d meet up with someone and go out tonight. The question is who. Maybe I should call Elicia,” the teen mused, preening his thick hair.

“I happen to know she already has plans,” Al said, feeling a little befuddled as he realized who Elicia’s lover had been.

Mark shrugged. “Okay, I’ll call Helen, then. I’m going to run and say hi to mom and tell her not to wait up.”

“You have a curfew, son. We’ll be waiting,” Roy assured him and Mark scowled then whipped around, stomping his way down the hall. He had inherited all of his father’s brattiness, Al was certain.

“Mark?” Al asked, stunned. “She was seeing Mark?”

“I told you, Maes is still haunting him, trust me.” Roy rubbed his forehead. “I love my son but he’s so much like Ed at that age.”

“And you,” Al said without a doubt in his mind Roy had been a match to Ed when he was a teen.

“I’m not sure what you mean,” Roy sniffed, giving him that peeved expression that always made Al wonder if Roy were somehow related to the Elrics. “If that boy makes me a grandfather any time soon, I’m killing him.”

Al laughed. “You’d make a good grandfather.”

“Yes, in another ten years,” Roy moaned, his head in his hands.

Al got up and patted him on the shoulder. “I think I hear Ed coming up the hall. This would be your chance to escape early, Roy.”

Sometimes Al was surprised at just how fast Roy could move.

“That was a wonderful evening,” Elicia said as Al locked the front door behind them. “I’ve never been to that restaurant before. That was the best roast pheasant I’ve ever had.”

“I thought I was going to have to wrestle Ed for that last blue cheese biscuit.” Al laughed. “Until Winry snagged it.”

“Just before I did.” Elicia laughed then her gaze softened. “And that concert in the park,” She sighed happily, taking Al’s hand. “It was the perfect ending.” Her green eyes met his. “Am I staying tonight?”

Al put his arms around her. “I think I have one more way to improve on the ending.”

“Oh, really?” Elicia couldn’t keep the coquettish tone out of her voice. Al kissed her, his arms traveling up and down her spine before dipping lower to cup her buttocks. There was no mistaking the look in his hazel eyes. “Are you sure you’re ready, Al?” she asked gently, feeling the press of his awakening cock against her thigh. She didn’t want to rush him.

“Very,” he whispered, letting her go so he could grip her hand and lead her into the bedroom.

Elicia let him steal more kisses, standing in front of the bed before Al started unbuttoning her shirt. She would let him set the pace, whatever he needed. From the way his fingers trembled and fumbled, she knew he was nervous. She undid her own bra. Al simply gazed upon her for several long moments before brushing a thumb over the silk soft skin of one coral pink nipple. It hardened under his touch and Elicia arched against him, wanting more, hoping he could give it.

Al’s lips pursed over the waiting nipple, sucking gently before he caught the bud of hard flesh between his teeth, just a sweet little nibble that left her gasping. Elicia slid a hand up under his shirt, pausing, waiting for approval to go further. Al stepped back just a bit, letting her take his shirt off. Elicia slowly traced the contours of his chest and abdomen as if exploring territory and committing it to memory just in case she never had the chance to return.

She kissed his neck, sucking lightly on the strappy muscle as one of her fingers toyed with his nipples. They dipped lower, Al groaning as they went, to play with the soft fuzz that bisected his belly. Elicia brushed over his crotch lightly, feeling him jerk at the touch. Rubbing against him, she whispered, “Touch me, Al.”

He murmured her name as his strong, talented hands kneaded her breasts. Al tenderly eased Elicia back onto his bed, his fingers going lower to feather a touch under her skirt. She rocked against his hand but all too quickly it escaped. Al bunched her skirt up, slowly kissing his way from knee to valley, following her white inner thigh as his guide. He kissed her through her panties before hooking a finger in them and tugging them down. Al’s fingers danced over her inner folds as he planted a kiss on her belly. “Need you,” she pleaded.

Al’s fingers withdrew and Elicia almost regretted her plea. She squirmed out of her skirt as Al fished something out of his wallet. Smart boy, she had nearly forgotten the need for a prophylactic. Elicia sat on the edge of the bed and undid his belt buckle and zipper. His cock rose to greet her and Elicia gave it a hesitant kiss. While she had been quick to assure Al that she wasn’t virgin, it wasn’t as if she had much experience. She had only gone down on Mark once and while it hadn’t been horrible, it had been messy. Elicia wished she knew exactly what Al might want. She caressed the long hard length of him and felt him tense.

Her green eyes canted up, meeting his. Was this too much for him? What if he changed his mind? She’d let him, of course. She’d be disappointed but she would understand. Instead, Al stroked her cheek, soft as milkweed fluff then he took her in his arms, maneuvering her back on the bed. His lips met hers hungrily, his body pressing against hers. Elicia wanted him inside her, rocking against Al to encourage him. Al pulled back just enough to open the condom and get it on.

His lips traveled across her collarbone then up her neck before finding her lips again. Elicia groaned into his mouth as Al unhurriedly pushed into her. Their bodies rocked and moved together, the fire between them building. Al knew just how to touch her and Elicia learned immediately the difference between an enthusiastic teen and an experienced man. She followed Al’s lead, her body singing with pleasure, a long, low moan vibrating out of her as every part of her inside and out seemed to flutter with joy. She was barely aware of calling out his name as her fingers dug into the strong muscles of his back. Al shuddered against her, his hips jerking.

They lingered together for prolonged sweet moments before Al finally ditched the condom in the bedside can and moved off her, lying on the bed next to Elicia. His arm settled in the hollow of her back as they faced each other, stealing lazy kisses.

”You make me happier than I know how to say, Al,” Elicia said sleepily.

“I’m the lucky one.” Al pulled her closer against him. “You let me live again, Elicia. You are a precious gift.”

Elicia blinked back happy tears and rested her cheek against his shoulder. “Love you so much,” she muttered.

Al caressed her back. “Love you, too.”

Aawww!! *snuggles them and squishes them together*

You're right, it is shamefully unrepentant fluff.

But it's cute.

And Roy made me laugh. (Roy, dear, consider: If you kill Mark, you'll end up having to take care of his child. Better to just punish him harshly and make him shoulder the load.)

it is. It's deadly fluff.

I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

Roy's just in a constant state of panic since his kids hit the teen years.

if you see boo boos point them out.

This is lovely. I'm glad to see Al and Elicia's relationship moving on. I like seeing the other characters later in life, too. You're doing a good job of writing them, because they're older, but still recognizably them. Roy and Ed as fathers are especially entertaining.

*Dances* I don't know which one of your Al/Elicia stories I like more... I loved Roy in this one, poor fellow. Just in as much trouble as Ed and his hell raiser kids.

Keke, Gracia is priceless.
