I HATE when i wake up too early and have to go back to sleep since there was no way i'm getting up that early on a weekend. The reason is (and this is the reason I don't nap) that when I try to sleep for just an hour or so i have nightmares. Every damn time. And then I wake up groggy.

This time i dreamt I was at a college teaching. The class was interuptted by some guest speaker who turned his lecture into a charity drive. I didn't mind that but somehow in the confusion, I left my notebook and flash drive in that class room. I didn't realize this until i was in the next classroom, only this place didn't look like my college. It looked like an old hospital...populated by the damned.

So i went back to my classroom 205...and couldn't find it. I started looking around, getting frantic and all anxiety ridden. I found corriders to nowhere. Places where the lights didn't work or flickered (you know stock footage from every cheesy horror flick out there). I went downstairs and up again. One elevator put me out where two crazies with swords and chainsaws were waiting and some how even though I was doing the 'i can't run' thing that dreams do to you, i still escaped them. (it was like they were stuck in that corridor ala the old time RPG video games)

I heard other people looking for my classroom too and no one could find 205, like it had disappeared. By now I was hyperventilating because it was ten minutes after the hour and I had only 5 minutes left to find it (because the class can leave if i'm 15 minutes late) My secretary finds me and seems confused as to why i can't find my room. She takes me to the elevator to show me the way but somehow someone distracts me and i don't get on. Figuring she'll be waiting for me upstairs I get on the elevator with some blonde chick and I'm back with the chainsaw duo. the blonde chick is outrunning me so I trip her and go.

That's when i wake up. My jaw hurts from clenching. I've bitten a hole in my lip and my neck and shoulders are in a spasm. Thanks brain. I needed that.

Yeah, leave the blonde behind, they'll get her first.

Two out of the past three nights I've dreamed dreams in which I was not the main character. I mean, I wasn't myself. I was someone completely different, but in a movie sort of sense. Like I was playing a part. It's hard to describe.

The first one was set in a post-apocalyptic world. I was in the dessert with my younger brother (which I don't have) and was trying to find a place to hide from people who were pursuing us. It seemed to jump back and forth from me being the character and me watching things unfold like I was watching a movie.

i've had many dreams like this. it's one of the reasons i'm not sure i buy into the idea dreams are nothing more than the hippocampus turning the days memories from short term to long. I mean it makes no real sense to me

That's awful. I hate nightmares. I suspect yours are probably triggered by anxiety, since you have a lot of stressful shit going on right now.

*hugs*

One of the strangest dreams I ever had... I was probably 12-13. My family and I went to a local spring where's a state park. They offer glass bottom boat rides over some caves and other boat rides down the river.

In my dream, we took a glass bottom boat ride, except it went down the river. Suddenly a big alligator broke through the glass and destroyed the boat. Everybody was in the water. For whatever reason, I realized this was a dream (that doesn't happen to me very often). I knew the way I tend to dream (at least back then), I would be chased by the alligator while traipsing through the forest trying to get back to dock, which was now miles away. I knew that it would take forever and I would probably either wake up right before getting to safety or get eaten.

So I decided to go ahead and end the dream. I started slashing around to get the alligator's attention. Pretty soon it came ride for me, opening its mouth wide. Right when it got to me, everything froze. Suddenly it was light a computer screen. In white writing, two options appeared: "Wake Up" and "Have Another Dream." I scrolled a mouse curser to the box next to "Wake Up" and I woke up.

That one weirded me out for awhile.

My former roommate used to get really weird dreams when she napped too. I'm wondering if it has something to do with being more likely to wake during a REM cycle when you sleep for a short period of time or something.

I've also been wondering if the reason why I'm so dead tired when I wake up is because of wherever in the sleep cycle I wake up.

i'm actually pretty sure that's the reason to be honest. And yes that is the reason often why you're dead tired. Zen alarm clocks slowly awaken you over time to help prevent htat but i never sleep long enough to be helped by them

Damn! I just looked up zen alarm clocks to see what they were. They're expensive!

VERY VERY. and since i have sleep cycles that are usually only two hours long (I get up three times a night usually) it would be a waste of my money

It's really too bad they don't make cheaper versions. I'd like to try one, but I don't need a nice wood finish, I just need one that works.

I think my sleep cycles are about 3-4 hours long, sometimes 5. Think it would work for that?

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
it probably should but at that price i'dh ate to try it and it NOT work

Yeah, I know what you mean. Well, I think I'll keep my eyes peeled on ebay to see if I can get a deal on one maybe.
