It occurs to me that I might like to burn a dvd (yes i know, rare occurance and yes I know, it's stealing and i dont' pretend otherwise). My question is, as silly as it may be, would i already have this sort of program on my XP and if not, where shall I get it?Thanks

What to play on the puter? I'm pretty sure you can burn using Windows media player.

Ok well there are a lot of contributing factors. If your puter came with a dvd burner, then yes you'd have a basic program to do it.

If you just want to burn some files to a dvd, it would work pretty similar to a cd. But if you want to burn a movie or episode or whatever the case may be, if it's a full dvd format (and depending on how big your dvd is, it could be either 4.7G or 8.4G), then you'd need to shrink the file first, if using the smaller dvd (using something like dvd shrink which is very easily found if you just google it, you'll find a free download quite easily). DVD shrink will both shrink AND decrypt a dvd should you need to copy a dvd for instance.

Nero is a dvd program that is decent and easily found online, and relatively easy to use.

I'd check what programs you have on your puter first then it might be easier to explain to you what you need to do. Just give me some specifics.

thanks. I THINK it came with a burner but i don't know and don't know where to look to see if it did. I wouldn't know the name of the software which makes it hard to know what the hell i have

I have one program for DVD shrinkage (which is what I want to do for movies) BUT it'll depend if I can download that to a pen drive since i can't download them at all at home.

Hmm, ok mine came with a default, very basic dvd burner, it should be on the program you used to burn your cd's, if that helps.
