Happy Earth Day everyone.

How to turn a bird-killing blight on the earth's surface into something helpful? Don't toss out your old cell phones. They are recyclable. Plenty of organizations do it for charity. The one I can think of off the top of my head is petsmart. In fact you can recycle not only your digital cell phones with them but your inkjets too (unless you're already taking those back to Staples and Office Depot for their gifts to you for recycling)

Taking in those inkjets also makes the earth smile.

now to go back to working up my ecosystem lecture for tomorrow.

p.s. it's the cellphone towers that are deadly. the phones themselves are still being tested for effects on the nervous system and other organ systems

And a very happy earth day to you as well. I was reading about how cell towers can affect bees (and may be a big reason why they are disappearing).

where did you read that? i'd add that into my lecture if I saw it. you remove bees, you remove plants.

It really annoys me how modern day conveniences always turn out to be either bad for you or the earth. You can't win. Either you're stuck in a cave, unable to bathe but one with the earth, or you're living a nice, sterile, middle-class lifestyle and destroying the earth. Feh.

I originally saw it mentioned on "Real Time with Bill Maher" but there are quite a few web articles on it as well. Here's a google list of some:

We have to find that nice middle area where we have what we NEED while still respecting nature and taking care of the planet.

There's also an article this morning on CNN, though it only skims:

Your mature, sensible outlook is getting in the way of my youthful angst. ;)

What an asshole! I don't understand people like that. And I have a special love for big cats (well, I have a special love for all cats).

Mature and sensible? Me? Why, thank you!
They usually just call me old and naggy. I much prefer mature and sensible though :)
