I didn't take my camera to the lake since i've been there forever and a day (literally my aunt and uncle have made Lake Berlin their summer spot for 20 years) so last night puttering back in i point and say SEE THIS IS WHY I DON"T WANT TO LIVE IN OH FOREVER. WHat was I pointing at? One of the hillbillies had driven his four-wheeler INTO the lake and was fishing out his window.

And today I got a head full of dog. First the neighbors 4 month old...i think it might be french bulldog pup came over. Bean peed submissively on my shoes. sighed but she was cute. THen I was on the front porch writing and having coffee when i heard running feet. I look up and Bugsy, the 8 month old version of Bean leaps in the air and lands on my head and begins licking so hard my sunglasses go flying (eww dog spit in my eye) and proceeding to get mud all over me.

The puppy is semi-housetrained - if you can get him to outside before he pees, he'll go out there, in other words.

I don't get it, wouldn't driving your truck into a lake mess up the brakes? I didn't think brakes took too kindly to immersion. But yes, a classic redneck moment. Rednecks are scary.

Dog spit=ew.

"One of the hillbillies had driven his four-wheeler INTO the lake and was fishing out his window."

Welcome to my world. Around here they also ride their lawnmower to the store and consider two pickup trucks and a lowboy a parade...

And AWWWWW puppies! I love the names Bean and Bugsy :)

they ride their lawnmowers to the bar around here...

they were cute puppies

Hillibillies in the lake....oh god what a priceless photo op! Or better yet...camcorder! Americas Funniest Home Videos. You would have won the grand prize!

Yeah the locals around here drive their lawnmowers to the grocery store, down to the river to fish...as a fashion statement. Haven't figured out what that statement should be...but whatever it is, it's not working!

tell me about it. It was a hysterical sight. I'm not sure what riding that lawmower is meant to say but toothless redneck is what i get

Around here I think it means they don't want to fire up the huge gas guzzler of a truck that's jacked up as if expecting the next great flood. You've seen those kind of trucks...hydraulic suspensions so high you wonder why the truck doesn't topple over.

oh god yes. I'm very familiar with those trucks. when i lived in Florida that was the vehicle of choice for mudding

It seems to be a status symbol here. *shaking head* I've lived in Missouri my whole life, and I still can't figure these people out!

*grin* I've settled for watching them and shaking my head. "You might be a redneck if....." could really get new material just by sitting in my driveway for one weekend, and observing these yahoos. They'd have enough new stuff to last them for years!

Oh yes....Ishte has told me stories about some of the 'unique' characters that live in Ohio. I WOULD, however, love to visit Yellow Springs! She claims I'd toss rocks at Missouri and move to Ohio.

i've not been to that part. I've moved away from OH twice and am so looking forward to that third time.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
oh god yes. If i never have to live in Ohio again I'm pretty sure I'll be thrilled. I've lived all over the country and there are a few places I never want to live again. Arizona, Ohio and Florida

WOW! You're the first person I've met, who dislikes living in Ohio! Okay so now I am curious. Why do you dislike it so much? I know the school system really sucks, and perhaps the health care system leaves a great deal to be desired...but other than that it seems like a generally nice state.

you named two big ones. I lived in Cleveland and hated it. In fact not one of my friends from school stayed in Ohio. We all hated it that much. My brother lived there twice and ran screaming twice. Ilived in Columbus and it was little better. Heck my friends don't even like to visit me there. One friend buggered off back to Boston wondering how i could stand it there. My insurance company even canceled my car insurance when i moved there thanks to the lousy drivers. I'm not sure i can think of anything i like to be honest and where I am now, int he foothills of the Appalachians...it was called the land of bones by the welsh settlers it was so ugly. Another Bostonian friend recently visited Cinnicinatti and was just generally horrified by it. The flatness...i really hate the flatness

You wouldn't like Kansas all that much then! Once you get away from the Kansas City, Kansas area it's all pretty much flat with no trees...or it's rolling hills after rolling hills after bleak nothing rolling hills. ARGH!

At least with Missouri you get variety. Flat lands, rolling hills, water, woods, more water...*grin*

i drove from KC to the western border of Kansas. Gah it was awful. Mostly if I'm in MO it's in Jefferson City. I'd like to see St. Louis.

Now Wisconsin i would love to return to

Oh man I know! I had to make a trip to Dodge City, Kansas one year...OMFG it was SOOOO boring! It felt like it took FOREVER!

Well that's odd...if you're in Jefferson City, you all but have to drive through St. Louis!

I hear Wisconsin is gorgeous country.

I knew a lovely Elder from Wisconsin, she claimed they thought nothing of driving at least 100 miles to get anywhere. ACK! I'll take the northern half thank you very muchly! Need the forests for my sanity.
