King Arthur

Boy, you know I wanted to enjoy this movie. I love Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffud and even Keira Knighley. I love Arthurian legend. I was expecting to be disappointed.
The most positive thing I can say was, Arthur, Lancelot and Gawain were cute and the horses were gorgeous. I think I've dated Boors at one time back in college...
To me, this would have been a LOT better movie if they hadn't tied it to Arthur at all (or perhaps if they hadn't stolen most of it from Robin Hood legends). If this had been some miscellanous group of warriors I would have been much more lentient.
Or maybe if they weren't touting it EVERYWHERE as the true legend of Arthur I would have cut it more slack but they did and I didn't. Went to see it with evil_little_dog and another friend of ours, K. As K put it, 'this movie just didn't work on SO many levels.' That's the nicest thing I could say about it and I will leave it at that. I won't muse long on how Guineivere didn't freeze to death in that filmsy outfit or how I expected her from the build up to be related to Merlin and wasn't. I won't pick at the hundred of OTHER little details like this. I WILL say that if you're going to tout yourself as coming from new archeological information please take the time to pick up a book and DO some research into the time period. They screwed up the cultures, the armor the weapons and it just kept on going.
I knew I should have rented this and saved my money. One final note to all viewers. Show some common sense. Do NOT bring pre-schoolers to a movie like this. It's far too adult and it just bores them when the violence isn't scaring them. And to the lady who was too lazy to carry her toddler from the parking lot into the buildiing, we ALL really appreciated the shadow of your stroller up on the screen. Thank you for your consideration, idiot.
