You won't often see me making posts about my beliefs or politics since i those are the things i prefer to keep private (and often I skip right over those things when my friends post about them.) But this transcends those things while being rooted in them.

Some of you may have heard about the honor killing of a young girl, Du'a Kahlil Aswad (note this hyperlink takes you to an article that has stills taken as she was beaten to death and is quite graphic)which was videoed using cellphones then put on the net. [livejournal.com profile] szandra posted on her journal about something that's been organized as a result.

In part, it got started with an angry essay from Joss Whedon that functions as a call to action of sorts. While in many ways most of us can not directly impact such horrible things, we can make our voices heard and what begins as a small ripple can become an irresitable wave.

And it's this call, that I wanted most to make people aware of, here on LJ (where my communities may see this more than once) and in my private non-lj groups. Nothing But Red is looking for short fiction, photography, poetry, essays and the like about the subject matter (not necessarily about Du'a herself but broader, more about the violence that's out there). I thought some of you might be interested. Some of you in my writer groups may even see my offering and even if it's not taken I'd be curious to see the ouput from this (money for which is going to various charities which you can see at the site).

thanks for listening
