So...i was talking to the loan people and my bank

1. the bank assures me that my account IS still there. Granted the bank manager couldn't get into it and the woman i emailed had to be called. She managed it. Who knows what the problem is? I'll try tonight after the storm

2. Student loans, the ones I'm actually paying. Tried to pay them online. www.mycampusloans.com is the WORST system ever known to man. We reset my password every month since it never works a second time. We just did this two weeks ago and I went on to pay ahead today...not working.

3. Student Loans who are suing me. FINALLY got a live person who tells me that because of the state suing me two years ago the interest rate on my loans is 12% (about 800$/month)and I asked why no one told me and he patronizingly said i should have had a lawyer to which I replied, 'i did and he didn't know that or at least did not share it with me.' I said let's set up a payment program so you don't have to default me. He said, we can't. We're not allowed (why didn't someone say this FIVE years ago when all this started). Only the federal government can so either i shell out 1200$/month or else. Well that's more than half my salary so no. I tell him that and he says, 'can't help you.' I ask WHY is it so high since i have another loan for only 10K less and their repayments are less than 300$/month. He starts telling me about well it must be because of my pay level and substandard loan collection and I'm like NO! They did NOT sue me. I've never missed a payment and it's a NEW loan that I got after I was disabled. He didn't know what to say then. So the long and short of it is, I have to be taken to federal court and they may or may not negoitate with me. What makes me nervous is they want to know the amount in my 401K and IRA and I'm thinking...can they possibly take my retirement money? I know they can take my tax returns and any and all inheritances. Guess I need a lawyer...again. southernbangel any suggestions? Still someone practicing general law? Since there seems to be no one who practices in student loans (well who can blame them, right? They'd never get paid)

oh and DISH Network tell me again how you're better than cable? It's just raining and you've been out for a half hour now.

bah, I'm off to make three-mushroom stuffed french bread pizzas. Screw the no-carb diet. To hell with no fat in cheese. And what the hell, I have the new HP book. I'll just eat my Chunky Monkey ice cream (i deserved it after a day like this) and go suffer in the bathroom later.

Why doesn't the fact that you are DISABLED enter into the student loan equation? I mean, if you could work the job you went to school for, don't the loan companies think that you would? WTF? I'm luckily not very far in debt. I hope to be able to stay at home once I start to work so that 1) I can pay off my loans, 2) take care of Dad and 3) save up some money for retirement or a home.
