Yeah the icon sums it up
Aug. 7th, 2007 10:51 pmAnd worn out would also be good, and angry at being pulled in a lot of different directions. I'm pissed at having to trebel my efforts to keep in touch with people I want to stay in touch with, of having to create new journals just to do this (No, not pissed at those who jumped ship but at them being put in the position that they feel they can't stay any longer, pissed at the ham-handed way LJ has been handling everything).
Especially since i see this as futile anyhow. Maybe yes, it's me being pessimistic (which I am, no doubts of it) but to me, it's not a matter of if this censorship problem follows us, but a matter of when. And as i've said before, I honestly don't expect the people running the other journals to handle it any better. I'm older than a lot of other people in fandom. Some of us remember the paper zine days. I've been at conventions where I've seen actors and writers literally trash a vendor stand, rip up the paper zines of things they thought weren't right (mostly either fanfic that was forbidden, NOT all authors allow it and they WILL sue you, i know i've personally got a cease and desist letter when one author changed her mind about allowing it and i was running the group, or slash fanfic when the author and/or actors disliked it, thinking of Blake 7 and Robin Hood) Censorship in fandom isn't new. It isn't right, mind you, but it's not new and it's not going to just leave because we all go to greatest journal or insane journal. Eventually, we'll have to fight this battle again. I've been in fandom 30 years this year so don't fault me for trusting in my experience about this topic.
so what's the upshot of all this bitching and me repeating crap I've said before. I'm now cornerofmadness at insane journal too. Not at greatest journal...yet. It will probably come. BUt right now I can't do three journals. I dont even WANT to. I wanted to cut my time at the computer not treble it but half my list went to one and half to the other and hopefull most did both so I won't lose someone for good. i hate this. I really do and was thinking about something someone on my list said about the next time this happens in one of those new communities (someone with as much fan experience as I), hmmm, time to go back to paper.

Date: 2007-08-08 04:00 am (UTC)But yeah, I agree that censorship will no doubt follow fandom. I guess I haven't been taking the latest exodus quite as seriously as perhaps I should have, since people often make a lot of noise about leaving LJ when the management does something they don't like, and then a few months later everything's back to normal thanks to the power of social networks and inertia.
Feh.

Date: 2007-08-08 05:26 am (UTC)But I am thinking very hard about downgrading to basic instead of Sponsored. Right this moment I don't want to give them even the minute amount of revenue ads on my journals generate. Six icons... is that enough?

Date: 2007-08-08 02:42 pm (UTC)and yes the customer service IS what annoys me. They have the right to limit whatever they want. They could go like fanfiction.net and make it R rated and under and that's their right but they have to do better on giving warning, and explaining what is and isn't acceptible
and Insanejournal has no ed/winry comm at leaast not one that comes up with a fullmetal alchemist search. No Maes/Roy either. Well at least there's Royai
flamingly_fey here, this is an RP journal
Date: 2007-08-08 07:15 am (UTC)But try telling that to the bright-eyed kids who got into fandom with Naruto's US release. Even in the nine years that I've had net access and things to obsess over, I've seen this kind of argument happen way too many times.
I'm not leaving. And I write my stuff out longhand anyway.

Date: 2007-08-09 05:50 am (UTC)However, that said, I'm not going anywhere... anywhere I went this bs is just going to follow... everything eventually gets sold to the highest bidder, and the highest bidder is eventually a big uncaring corporation who is not intersted in the people who make it happen, but in the bottom dollar... LJ will see though that they'll loose money as paying customers choose over and over to return to their initial 6 icons and just deal.
As far as customization, have have seen very few additional layouts for a paid account, and really nothing a paid account can do with the layouts I use that a freebie can't do... so I design my layouts specifically to have 6 icons anyway. *shrug*

Was listening to the radio today about a woman's crisis about her youngest child looking far older than her sister and her sister's friends wanting to date the younger child...who was 14...and sister's friends were 17 and older.
...ewww.
