It's over with! I only have to finish grading stuff. YAY. Now on to bigger and better things (okay cleaning the house and hey maybe working on my synopsis, the one for Ties that bind suggested part of itself on the way home)

One of my students told me on the way out the door that he loved my class and that I was nuts. Hard to argue that!

They invited me out for drinks but I did decline as I always will. I appreciate the offer but I'm just afraid of getting in trouble that way (whether I do something or not which has just recently happened with someone at the school so...)

was looking into the 'lore and magic' of trees (mostly back in my spiritual investigation mode) and found out that by birthday and by name (in Oghma) my tree is the Oak. I rather like that.

ETA - I forgot to mention that I just finished a very large Royai piece set after the FMA movie. However, I never could make it all the way through the movie and my usual beta has never seen it so I'm looking for a second beta to check out the details from the movie to make sure I haven't buggered it up. Thanks in advance (i'll send it one chapter at a time or in one fat chunk, your call, though right now it's totally unpolished)

That's wonderful. Glad you're feeling better too!

I wouldn't trust students offering me drinks...you just know their after reference letters and the exam results.

found out that by birthday and by name (in Oghma) my tree is the Oak.
Dammit, now you've made me curious.... *wibbles*

yeah, it's just not a safe thing to go drinking with the students.

the book is Whispers from the Woods by Sandra Kynes and looking at your birthdate (for god's sake I was in college by the time you were born...)your birth trees are chestnut and Hawthorne. I would need just the first letter in your name for your name tree.

and looking at your icon reminds me to go finish reading Bleach #20 and reviewing it and 19th for manga jouhou...

I'm going to have to look for that the next time I hit the bookstore.

I know, I'm a young un. And as my bro would put it evil...Jim Henson died on my b-day. My names starts with J.

I haven't read any new manga in a while. Though saving up money for a PSP might be the reason why. Damn the world and it's electronics.

hmmm did he now. I had forgotten it was that long ago already.

J would be Yew, which incidentally stands for death and transitions...cheery

gah manga is so expensive. I've given up on electronics (well i'm still arguing with my stupid mp3 player)

I'm just a ball of lovable fun and destruction. A death here a reckoning there...I think I'll forget a normal job and apply to be the grim reaper.

One of the stores in town has a trade in policy so they usually have FMA, Bleach and the others that are used for 5 bucks. Unfortunately not that many people read Saiyuki here. Shame on them.

that's cool. There's not a bookstore for 100 miles of here, let alone one that does trades

well one of my original characters, Yukio, could probably tell you how to apply for that Grim Reaper job

and aww to the icon

Yay on the classes being done - and um, how do you find out about the tree thing? *needs to know*

it's in my book, Whispers from the Wood by Sandra Kynes. for your birthdayit's fir and holly

for the oghma it's vine/bramble (snort, what's with you and poky things) which actually symbolizes an inward journey and learning lessons (oak is strength self confidence and justice)

How long is your story, COM? I could try to have a look at it if you like. (I suppose I should ask how soon you'd want it finished, though. I suspect that could be a factor.)

i have to go look at the challenge rules since the deadline is like 2 weeks and it's 60 odd pages which is a huge commitant so if no one wants to do it, i'm not going to be surprised or hurt

I've seen the movie, but my skills pale in comparison to yours. But I do drool at the thought of a raw copy.

Heh. I don't think it's too bad. Though it had waaaaay too much Ed, waaaay too much "the other side of the Gate" (I live in this world already; I don't watch FMA to see my world), and waaaaay to little Roy.

But I didn't think it was too bad as a winding up of the anime story.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
pretty much i disliked the anime once we got past Maes' death. I didn't like how they handled Winry or Sciezka and don't get me started on Rose so I think it was a natural that I wouldn't like this movie.

And Nazis....brrr

this is why 95% of all my FMA fic is manga. I've only really ever read two post movie stories so why i should want to write one (well now two since it demanded a sequel) I'll never know

From: [identity profile] kashicat.livejournal.com
I think I'm lucky, that I saw the whole anime before I ever read any of the manga. So I get to enjoy both of them.

(And, um, being all self-promoting and stuff...I'm writing a 9-chapter post-movie story. So I know there are at least three. Heehee!)

actually i did too but after some inital hesitation I went manga all the way.

hmmm and where can one find this story?

Why, funny you should ask. :-) [Now I feel really manipulative. Sorry.]

It's currently posted at FF.net (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3319966/1/Apotheosis) (it always seems that the chapters are too long for LJ to take, alas). Four chapters posted, the fifth just being edited now, and all nine chapters & Epilogue written but not all ready yet.

No pressure to read it if you're busy. But, well, I couldn't resist mentioning it.

oh i don't mind. I do the same, trust me. I AM a slow reader (mostly because I can't read on line and have to print it out) but i'll at least get ch 1 read sooner rather than later

i take it back, it might not be bad. Mom just went to a cousin's 50th wedding anniversary where the brother AND the sister both left in an hour. Now that's just rude. Maybe going away as a faimly isn't so bad

My mother has a wonderful card set called, I believe, the Tree Ogham. It came housed in a wooden box, and I haven't seen it for sale in years, but it's a nifty card set, and the instruction book is very informative as well. It's all British trees, of course, since it's based on Druid/Celtic tree lore.
