my toe hurts but my brain hurts more. I'm getting SO tired of seeing boring, draggy authors getting picked up by agents and getting published when I see so many actually GOOD authors getting zero recognition for years. Case in point the piece of crap book i had in my hand at the hospital. I ended up rereading the manga I had in my purse to take back to the library. Gah. So, let me talk a little bit about things people might want to give a chance.

By no means is Charlene Harris' Sookie Stackhouse vampire mysteries 'unknown' She's a NY bestseller but you never hear her name bandied about on the fanlists. It's a shame since her stories are good, funny and well the mystery part is also good. Maybe her vampires aren't these overwrought angsting vampires so popular of late but you know, that makes them more interesting not less.

TV shows that people ought to give a looksee to that I think are better than some of the stuff that people just go gaga over, [livejournal.com profile] carlyinrome mentioned Psyche at the beginning of its season and she's right. It's funny, silly even but Spencer and Gus making for a fun mystery solving partnership and seriously I rather want a Gus.

Eureka on Sci-Fi is another one I never hear anyone talking about but it's also funny and smart (and has a relatively good looking cast for that matter). If you've never seen it, give it a shot.

still trying to get some of my original fiction back on track. Points up to why it's been slowed down. As other artists on the flist will attest, seeing crap out there can take the wind out of your sails momentarily.

but hey, here's a book review list that didn't have much in the way of crap on it, so enjoy

death by books

and apropos of nothing, I want this chair. I wish it wasn't green. I LIKE green but not this shade for the computer room

and I want everything on here

and is it wrong I'm half done with my Yule shopping already?

oh well enough of this. time for more narcotics. You know the worst part of this broken toe is? I ran it over trying to get to my coconut captain morgan to pour into Jones co crushed melon pop. It's a tropical party for your mouth and now i can't have any until the pain goes away.

and oh, dear Health Services, you KNOW I broke my foot. That's why i'm getting a temp. handicapped parking permit from you. KNowing that and knowing that your building's parking lots are totally sealed off by construction and i have to walk across campus why did you not just send a student with the damn thing?

Sorry about your toe. It sounds very painful!

her vampires aren't these overwrought angsting vampires

That's part of the reason I like early series Spike and Dru. They love being evil. ;-)

it's painful. i've broken it so many times before but i did it really bad this time

and yes, that was what made Spike/Dru so fun and that's what I like about Sookie's vampires, they mostly every day human rather than larger than life crybabies (looking at both Hamilton and Rice here) and then they do something that reminds you they are NO LONGER human at all

i'm sorry about your toe. I hope your mouth gets to have its tropical party with Captain M. very soon!

We recently started watching Eureka and are enjoying it. We've also watched the first ep of Flash Gordon and are cautiously optimistic--looks like maybe something we can enjoy with the kids.
