movies and TV
Sep. 25th, 2007 09:30 pmseeing the trailer to Moonlight makes me sad that in the early 80's I was just a teenager and not good enough to sell anything or I would have totally scooped them all on the vampire P.I. thing (well I think mine was a cop but you get the idea)
Journeyman SNOOZE. I might give it another try.
She was very distraught about George's death until I reminded her Hiro COULD undo it. (I was shocked he died so fast. I keep hoping Momma Petrelli bites it next)
I enjoyed it. I was laughing at poor Hiro having to face the fact that not only is his hero a gaijin, he's not much of a hero either. I like the new potential love interest for Claire. And gah, Suresh, what a beautiful hunk of cinnamon he is. someone mentioned his superpower is exposition...yeah true but I don't care. Other highlights, Nikki wasn't in the opener. Woot. I'm not a giant fan of the Petrellis so I didn't much care about Nate (still a jerk I see) though Peter's plight is interesting (though why the trailers have the irish gang torturing him was a tad puzzling). I'm interested in Maya (she's cute) and Alejandro.
I was very excited when this movie came out. I did get the book since the author did LA Confidential which I loved. I remember when this came out and they were toting it as his take on the murder mystery. The book was so impenetrable I quit in under 50 pages. The movie was the worst piece of tripe I've ever seen. If I hadn't been grading tests at the time I would have just turned it off but i left it on for background noise. I noticed the dvd cover said 'inspired by' but the author was bragging about this. Even saw a special on court tv.
I have NO idea where he got his ideas but not from any Black Dahlia case file and I've seen tons and tons of evidence on this in books, AMW etc. It's a fascinating case, UNSOLVED I might add. 85% of this movie has NOTHING to do with the Black Dahlia and is about the two cops and their love triangle with one of the cops live in lover. Meanwhile the young cop does track Dahlia to a lesbian club (and I was wondering, since I don't know, would there have been a burlesque club of this calibre for lesbians in the late 1940's) where he meets a high society woman and immediately begins sleeping with her (there is a ton of frantic, ridiculously so, ripping off of clothes in this but thankfully followed by cuts to black) At one point he gets horrified that she slept with the Dahlia and runs away and I'm thinking, well you knew she was bisexual for the get go you found her in a lesbian club remember. Or is that that she looks just like Dahlia that freaked you and why do i care. My grading is more interesting.
Then it meanders back to the crooked cop partner who ends up getting killed and cremated on the spot in secret because 'this is how it had to be' and everyone thinks he ran off. WTF? In the end they SOLVE the Dahlia mystery in a plot so horrendous that it could only have come from a Hollywood Hack. Nothing pisses me off more than a writer solving a case that is unsolved (looking at Patricia Cornwell here too)
oh and side note my students are amazingly well...so why is it my first thought isn't I'm growing as a teacher or they're just bright this term but rather, somehow a copy of my test got out there
okay time to go get a beer.
word count for the month
