I had more to say but my sugar edged in on 500 and i thought hmmm maybe a hospital would be good then remembered being in the ER early this month and someone was in for the same problem and they shot him with insulin and sent him home so I just did the same thing and it fell to nearly double digits. I'm starting to stabilize now but i feel blah.

but I did want to babble on my sucess at [livejournal.com profile] ficfrenzy this month

stories worked on the FMA sequel of Doom, Red Skies (original) Melt into the wind (original), a 30 kisses challenge, Hyperion's son, The Hour of Separation, Strands of Nightmare, some Saiyuki fic and the charity FMA fic and probably more i can't remember and oh drabbles

total -

frankly i'm stunned. I'm 17K past my original goal of 20K. I had to bump up my goal twice before giving up. This was a very good month for me. I wish more of it was original fic but you know, I'm still happy.
ETA - about 15K of this if not more is Red Skies and original fic novel i'm working on with [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog so half of that is her word count too

Hey. about story writing, is editing the story you sent me a high priority? I've been putting it off again because I've had other things to do but if you need the first couple chapters done then I can get to that. Let me know!

My mom is an insulin depended diabetic so I understand your problems. Mom is lucky to be less than 400 but the last year she has been doing pretty good at 250-300. But occassionally she falls asleep and is late eating and her suger will plummet. If she goes below 150 she is major sick. She usually calls one of and we stay on the line while she gets things back on kilter. Or she has an off the scale sugar and same scenario.

Last month about 10 PM she somehow got her two insulins mixed up and took 80 of her fast acting instead of her regular. This was about 20 times too much and well we all panicked. She had already drank a coke and even swiggs of molasses to counter act the insulin. I called poison control and they tried to get her to go to the hospital. They did advise her to eat half a peanut butter sandwich and then another half in a few hours. The PC guy even called the local hospital in hopes they could talk mom into going in. The hospital called mom and agreed there was nothing they could do she had not done. My sister eventually went over and spent the night. And the PC guy called me at 6AM cause he could not get them. Seems mom and sis had finally fallen asleep.

Oh one thing, if the insulin is not effective keeping the sugar down, talk to your doctor about changing it. Mom had a problem for years and finally she went to a specialist in Chapel Hill and was told she was allergic to the insulin. They switched her immediately but so much damage had already been done to her body.

Her current doctor has her on a sliding scale and yes she takes around 80 regular twice a day. Her doctor even told us she use to not allow her patients to take more than 60 until she had a consult with a specialist about a patient and they put the man on about 90. I hope your doctor listens to all your feedback and concerns cause you know your body better than anyone.

The damage uncontrolled diabetis can do to the human body is horrendous. And if there is a complication Mom seems to have it. She is 74 this month and has been battling it for 20+ years.

sorry to hear about your mom. And believe me I know. I was a diabetic wound care specialist. You dont' even want to know how many limbs I had to amputate. The thing is i MAKE insulin my body refuses to use it and that includes the insulin in my syringes. I'm allergic to the one I've told him this but that seems to be a common reaction to it. ...

Mom has lost two and 1/2 toes over the years. Also I am not sure you are familiar with Charcot's Joint Desease. Seems many doctors aren't. Mom suffered from misdiagnosed "infections" for about ten years until she moved here to the coast and the first doctor immediately recognized it. By that time her feet had been completely malformed. None of her previous doctors (including podiatrists) had any clue to what was happening. They just kept giving her antibiotics for the "inflamed" foot. She is now in a wheelchair that she moves with her feet because she too unsteady on her feet.
But she is just grateful to have her feet and legs.

i am a podiatrist and there is NO reason to miss charcot's foot disease. None. It's one of the most common problems diabetics have
