So I talked to mom and she wanted to go do Boo at the Zoo next week and since i hadn't been to the Pittsburgh's zoo in 30 years I said okay I'll come home.

That means braving the heat to go to the Renn fest (sorry [livejournal.com profile] ishte if I had been thinking about my geography i would have realized how close I was passing to you). I did end up wearing the garb but for the grossest of reasons (basically diabetics have to pee a lot. the renn fest has nothing but portajohns with pissed on seats and about two inches of standing pee on the floor so if I had on shorts it woudl be can i get them down far enough but not too far. Moot point, it was so damn hot, I never did have to pee)

I had to park in B.F.E. and the heat was brutal. Record setting misery. No matter what I would have worn I would have been miserable. I didn't get to see many shows, only Dirk and Guido: swordsmen which was delightful as always. They had up a half dozen men on stage getting them to flex, throw out their chests, tip up their chins and grin for the ladies and then moved on to having them swagger and strut. Is there a man alive who doesn't like an audience? It was hysterical. I did pass, sadly on the joust since it was out in the full sun and honestly I would never have survived it.

Some things were moved, something things gone and new games (well some) for the kiddies. The leather lady was there and I was going to purchase holiday gifts from her and something for me, the alchemic pattern she had last year. I asked and she looks at me and says 'what?' The alchemy pattern from last year, got it? 'do you mean pentacles' (in a very nasty tone might I ask) No (hell lady those are everywhere, I'd have to be blind to miss those) and I try to explain what it looked like. She interupts me with a 'I have LOTS of symbols. I can't remember them all. I'm retiring. What you see is what you get' and turns her back on me. I just stared at her (as did a fwe other customers) since I was being very civil (i mean I wanted something, right?) and she's yelling at me. I put back what I was going to buy as well. Bite me.

It was too hot for food but i did make ice cream lunch. (hey there was an apple dumpling underlying it. that's food right?) I went to uncommonadornments again and got more earrings (like i needed those, picked up gypsy jewelry too (points to the did i need it line) and the one guy who makes his own molds for pagan designs (and has stuff in museums) doesn't have a website. There was a beautiful cernnous and one of the triple aspects in plaque form that I would have bought but i knew i couldn't carry it with the other thing I bought. He's had a 5 plaque set of earth,w ind, fire, water and spirit that i've wantd but it was...not really pricey when you look at all you get but it was more than I had last year. However, seeing as he was on Oxygen I was thinking this might be my last chanc. Still sad I passed on those other two plaques...

I also got my dad an astrolabe for the holidays (and if he doesn't like it I do. I think it's cool. I also got a few other websites because I just couldn't bear the heat and had to skip a few shops. Usually i go around the thing three or four times. It took me three hours to get around not quite once. I was wilting. those websites for cool stuff ancient arts (bought gifts for the holidays from them) and Lawrence A Williams art I was too hot to peruse his stuff (he's done stuff for TSR) but i loved the dragons and book of angels stuff i saw on the fly (i like angels but only MALE ones, don't ask...)

I did however get a full-hand tattoo of a lotus flower with the ohm symbol in it. The wrist portion got a little screwed up from me sweating gumballs so it's not so dark but the hand is beautiful. Tomorrow when it matures i'll take a picture. On my way home I stopped for popcorn chicken (since I wasn't hungry but i KNEW i needed protein) and water but they accidentally poured me a monster sized root beer which i accepted (no charge) and the kid at the window loved that tattoo and made everyone come look. They're like did you get that at the outlet mall (right behind us) and I'm thinking, I'm in a renn gown, wearing a snood, sweating and stinking like a horse and you want to know was i at the mall?

At least you got to go. I think I'm going to have to miss the Renn fest here this year since I don't think any of my car-enabled friends are going.

Lawrence A Williams is FANTASTIC! I have several of his prints since I have a thing for griffins - as does he. :-)

i noticed that. And the prints are affordable enough to make into holiday gifts. too bad I was too wiped out to look then but i wouldn't have been able to carry it to the car

Too bad it was so hot because it sounds like it would have been a great time.

even with the heat, it was a decent time. It's a very commerical renn fest but it's also a lot of fun normally

A couple of ren faire types have lost a sale because they left me hanging to wait on younger, hotter customers. Their bank account's loss.

oh they would have lost me too for that kind of crap. I've been lucky, most of them have been very attentive to me. Ohio's Renn is very commerical, tons of vendors. I won't have to worry about this one any more and the one who ripped me off last year I walked right by
