I don't watch it but my parents want to know if Amanda Tapping joining the cast of STG:Atlantis was the reason the other woman (Tori Higginson?) is now gone. THoughts? Knowledge? Rumor?

I don't know for sure. Probably? Maybe? I think maybe TPTB thought that bringing her over would pull more SG-1 viewers over, and the Lord knows that the writers couldn't possibly write for three (four when they have to write for Keller) women.

Weir was my least favorite character, but I'm not sure that Carter is a good fit here since she's so redundant - science and military - to our regular cast.

However, this does give me the opportunity to write Rodney/Sam. *g*

Supposedly not. Supposedly they decided to get rid of Weir and then also Amanda Tapping's contract wasn't up and they exercised the option to have her come over to the show. I'm not sure what the 'official' reason was for getting rid of Weir though.
