At work on my day off.
Oct. 20th, 2007 10:25 pmThe Math/Science (I'm the advisor) and the Pre-Med clubs went to see the Bodies exhibit today in Columbus. Could we have picked a worse day? Bet not. First half the profs didn't give mid terms last week like we were supposed to and students dropped from the outing. Then it was the Circleville Pumpkin festival which backs up traffic for hours and miles (100,000 people can show for this thing!) And the topper, OSU's homecoming. Kill me.
And since i was elected last minute to add 20 miles to and from the school to pick up those who needed a ride, I go there. No one IS there mind you (note to the club, next time, if people DONT have rides they must come to me prior to outing to arrange transport).
I get there exactly on time. Half the students are late. Fine, whatever, we finally get in there. I have half my students clinging to me and the other half with the other prof and we're lecturing. Then I dont' know WHAT happened. I was down to three students and their dates and some random strangers following me around and 20 odd other students and the prof were gone. I'm like did you RUN through it? Didn't you care? I was rather disappointed. But some random people got to learn more than that 5$ audio tour was gonna give 'em. They didn't even wait for us. They were long gone by the time we were done (I'm long winded I know but still...could have told me. We also witnessed a pack of teenaged girls getting booted out. They were taking pictures with their cell phones, a forbidden act for obvious reasons and you should have heard them denying it. The adults in the room unanimously ratted them out. It's disrespectful to the bodies and the rules and it's about time to learn that rules exist for a reason and yes they DO apply to teenagers (and I thought I was being old thinking that but my 20 something waiter today was also bemoaning the rudeness of the teens today and he's like 5-10 years from being one...)
I don't normally go out to eat with students. I worry about things like that but i figure significant others were in play so we all went to the Cheesecake Factory. You know I still don't like this place much. I don't know why everyone loves them. It took nearly TWO hours to get us the whole meal which was SANDWICHES. I mean my god. Thankfully the conversation was good. And i was mentioning how you get this pitiful slices for 10$ of the cheesecake. They insisted this one didn't do that. My slice was decent but theirs was pitiful...told you so.
and please do NOT ever let me in Trader Joe's alone ever again. NEVER. I could have spent 100$ in the cheese case. Tell me, what did i need 3 lbs of mesquite desert honey for? Or that bottle of Diego red wine?
I really wanted to go to the Dracula ballet and since i was alone (with change of clothes in car) I could have but a) was feeling so tired b) OSU homecoming is close to that area c) just wasn't in the mood so I skipped it for bookshopping. I had to go to TWO Borders and a Waldens to get all of the remaining Chrono Crusade books. Gah. Though one Borders did have the manga tarot. I'm kicking myself for passing on it
And to avoid the Pumpkin festival (remember last year when it took me 3 /12 hours to go 90 miles?) i went the long way back thru Athens and a national forest. i'm not sure waiting in traffic wouldn't have been better.
And all the way two totally new characters say THEY want to be the nano project even though they have no plot and no nothing but a vague idea that's a tad derivitive but they're very insistent about it (and oddly insistant that the non-human character has an os baculum, like we need to know THAT)
well it's cherry wheat beer time.
