Drama how i love thee so
Oct. 22nd, 2007 01:56 pmSo I had a very early morning doctor's appt today with my endocrinologist. I figured there'd be no trouble since it was like and hour and half before my class started and usually they aren't running behind in the morning. USUALLY. With only ten minutes to go before class, I had to call in and cancel. I couldn't get my secretary because it wasn't ringing in right so i call the nursing one and left a message since she wasn't there. more about that later.
I talk to the doctor. He's not tremendously helpful, frankly. More interested in pills/surgery than figuring out what's wrong. Didn't seem to think my polycystic ovarian disease could be contributing much (frankly I disagree). I said no to the surgey since we've NOT done everything, like find me a gym (damn horrible living area) so we're putting me on yet another new medicine. And in spite of being on prescription strength alli for three months I lost ONE pound. ONE! Don't you think we should have been more concerned about my metabolism?
His solution back on the 500 calorie a day diet. Now I've been on this once before and collapsed at work but that was 11 years ago and I wasn't diabetic at the time (I lost no weight then either). So we're going to try it again (after I try the pills, they seem safer, frankly). I'm allowed only two servings of meat all day, two liters of water and a boullion cube (to keep me from peeing myself to death, no seriously). The good news is that my kidneys/liver are fine.
So I get to work only to find out that the nursing secretary didn't get my message until ten AM. a full half hour after my class. The students were so worried they took to the highway to look for my car. My secretary, knowing I'm diabetic and having a sister who is one, knows what can happen coma-wise to diabetics so she called the dean who sent the cops to my house (I have no idea if they broke in or not! God, I hope not, I'm still at work!). Why do all my days go like this? Well at least I was missed and they worried about me!
