tying up ends
Nov. 1st, 2007 09:42 pmtaking a nanoing break to tie up the theatre experience. Last night we ran another 141 people through it and the grand total was over 800 for the week. It was a blast. I wish i lived closer to the theatre so it was easier for me to do more. I also was reminded why i don't teach high school. They're all hormones and no brains.
There was one 16 y.o. who flirted with me the entire week. I'm like sweetpea, i have t-shirts older than you. Seriously. Now to find an adult to pay the attention to me that he did. I did end up punking out on taking down the stuff today. I forgot a dental appt. gah.
One sour note about Halloween had to do with work. We have one religious teacher who's been teaching at the college longer than I've been alive. I have no trouble with this. If you're religious more power to you but it pissed me off when he stopped in my office yesterday to bitch about how ungodly it was that Halloween is so popular now and how I had BEST decorate my office for Christmas. How persumptious. How does he know I'm not Jewish? I'm going to a Hindu festival next weekend and I have Buddhist prayer flags in my office. How does he know THAT isn't my religion? Does he go around telling the Hindu/Muslim/Buddhist teachers to decorate? I wanted so much to say 'i"m pagan. THIS is my big holiday' but i know better than to shoot myself in the foot. I have nothing against religion until you start forcing it on others.
And even more upsetting is getting a call from mom to say my brother's colonoscopy didn't go well. His Chron's flare might lead to a bowel resection. Mom's not taking it well. I guess it is hard on her. She only has two kids and we're both seriously ill. Her and Dad could outlive us both. That's not easy
and on that unpleasant note, I'm going back to nanoing before i depress myself

No one at my college got into H'ween at all. I wore my cat hat and was all depressed that no one else even so much as TRIED to play. :-( The cafeteria staff were dressed up - that is it.

Date: 2007-11-02 10:59 am (UTC)We had Jehovah's Witnesses out in force yesterday (large white van full of large black ladies dressed to the nines), going door-to-door preaching salvation... but only to the doors that have Halloween decorations. So, guess who's house got a knock? Lucky for me, we have a fence and locked gate - so none of the uninvited even make it to our door. But they knocked on the side of our house for 15 minutes...
And I hope your brother doesn't need a resection. *hugs* to all
