Got some writing done
Jul. 27th, 2004 12:05 amIn amongst the craziness that is here. Packing is not going well. I have no desire to do it since this all feels so surreal and very temporary. Still, I'm leaving a lot here. I just need to pack it up so when I DO return for it all, it's easier. Then again if I do return in the winter it'll be so much more pleasant to pack then. Had to fax my W-4's and application to work at the college today (Um didn't I fill out the application once). Pray you have a fax machine because Office Depot charges nealry 2$ for the first page and a dollar there after. I paid 10$ for this.
Went to visit Anubis and his better half this weekend. It was nice, got that edge of sadness because this will be the last time I see them for a long time. Some of the conversation topics didn't help. It's scary, you see, growing older. Turning 30 didn't bug me. Turning 40 in a few years I think will, mostly because I've no life savings. None of my friends do. Most of the people I know in my generation are barely making ends meet no matter how much education we have. The married couples are both working and still barely able to save anything for retirement. That was the crux of the conversation. It still scares me.
But on a lighter note, I DID get my CYA story half edited. I'll probably post it early just to get it out of my way. And here's my B/A story for the summer challenge at Blood Roses. Just for once I'd like Buffy and Angel to act right in my stories. Give me something sweet and normal. No, I never get normal but hey for once it's not a giatn action epic. Let me know what you think. The Common Good of Life

Date: 2004-07-26 09:34 pm (UTC)I've been throwing out plenty. Thing is since I move so often I don't have a lot of excess junk...and yet I do at the same time. It's werid the shit I'll keep.

Date: 2004-07-27 08:07 am (UTC)I adored your story. Hopeful with a side of love. Not sweet or sacarine, just true to the characters. And I love that in nursing Angel, Buffy discovers her heart. And you have a thing for perv Connor, don't you. I find that so funny.

Date: 2004-07-27 10:25 am (UTC)I'm glad you liked the story. I Wasn't sure where it was going at first and it was so dark that I thought a little comedic relief would help so in came pervy little Connor (he's fun to write that way. The more he becomes like Liam had been the more interesting Angel's reactions become at least from my pen)

Date: 2004-07-27 08:15 am (UTC)I know what you're saying about getting older. I'm 32 and I haven't really started saving for retirement yet, primarily because the jobs I've had have only paid me enough to get by. Things are looking better now, but I still worry.
I really enjoyed the fic. I loved the interaction between Buffy and Angel and the Connor stuff cracked me up. I really enjoy the way you write him. The Connor you created in "Memory of a Lost Paradise" is so different and yet, both are very compelling. I also thought that Buffy's revelation about becoming cookies worked. Even though she told him in "Chosen" that it would take "years, if ever", her coming to this realization felt natural. It's really nice to see Buffy and Angel hopeful after everything they've both been through. Great job.

Date: 2004-07-27 10:17 am (UTC)THANK YOU. I'm glad you liked the story. I figured that story needed a little relief in the gloom so in came Connor and Faith. I'm glad Buffy coming to a realization way before 'years if ever' worked for you (that's the kind of thing I worry about). And yeah, definitely a different Connor (Buffy and Angel too for that matter) than in Memory. Glad both worked for you. Hope to have a new story in that series up soon that predates Aurora Now and Memory of a Lost Paradise

*g* I loooooooooooove it!
Date: 2004-07-27 02:57 pm (UTC)Angel was still a part of her. Even broken as he was, comatose, silent, he still completed her. She hadn’t even realized that she was a jigsaw missing a piece until he came into her care, or was that a lie, too? Maybe she always knew there was a stray piece and that’s what all the men in her life were, Parker, Riley, Spike, attempts at completion. Even in his silence, Angel made her feel whole for the first time since she blew up the high school. - See? cuteness abounds! You should make a slogan on that.
Also, methinkg you have a kink with stealing clothes out of helpless little kids. Love how you never say which of the two (three?) he's actually chosen. Though, now that I remember, you like the threesome option in that case. *G*
Buffy felt adrift and this accident was anchoring her. Moreover, she needed to feel that old time connection, - Very good Buffy. I've been wondering at that since Andrew told us that the Scoobies had drifted apart, it just seemed so weird not to imagine them together.
An apocalyptic battle, leaving everyone dead except Angel and Spike, both so injured the boy wanted to know if he should dust them to be merciful. Giles told the boy to take them to the Cleveland complex. He would find help there and the Watchers would gain valuable knowledge by watching vampires heal. Giles didn’t say that but Buffy knew he was thinking it. - How you manage such a real Connor and Giles in a single paragraph is beyond my comprehension. It was a wonder Connor thought to call before staking them, instead of just telling when and where the wakes would be. You might want to tell us HOW he found the number, though.
“The son of a vampire as a Watcher. Anyone for a little Alanis Morrisette?” - It is scary that I know what you meant before you actually explained the reference. *g*
She wanted better for Angel’s son but wondered if Angel would see it that way. He had a soft spot for Faith that drove her nuts. - Perfect.
“Faith...Connor likes his women older.” - Don't we know it. It's a wonder there aren't many Connor/Illyria stories.
Nitpick: “In my bed,” Buffy said and heard Angel shifting around at that announcement.
“I didn’t think you’d wake up. I thought I had done the wrong thing not staking you, putting you out of your misery.”
“Patience was never your strong suit,” - Of course their first conversation would be like this. Never the sentimental kind, were they? Talking about this wonderful father-son relationship, I must ask how everybody failed to tell me about the karaoke they pulled at the Hyperion in S4. Damnit, I nearly fell off the couch laughing when I realised what I was seeing!
“Spike could probably bitch while comatose,” - *hugs bitchy Spike* Of course he would! Love that line. I'm sure I'll be begging to steal it at one point in the future.
“Darla and Dru, gross, and no words out of you about any virtues those ladies might once have had.”
“You have scissors. I can’t move. I’ll be quiet.” - Wonderful exchange. She should have scissors the first hundred times he defended either of the vampiresses.
“I saw that, Angel, that proud, ‘that’s my boy look,’ in your eyes.”
“Imagination,” he assured her as she started to unbandage his chest wound. “Awful, awful boy, using poetry to lure women into his clutches.”
“You know, that would be more convincing if you didn’t have a wide grin on your face. Men.” - This has to be one of my favourite parts. It's just so many things. My favourite couple teasing each other subtly (or what goes for subtle in that basement). Angel being able to feel like a 'Daddy' without anyone frowning. Connor actually appearing like a normal boy. *sigh* Happy Leni.
“Any chance you can wheel me over there so I can kick Spike before he’s able to walk?” - *ggg* Totally an Angel-line.
Oh, I loved this sososososo much.
Leni, who is too lazy to sign in at the forum.
Re: *g* I loooooooooooove it!
Date: 2004-07-27 10:29 pm (UTC)Cute? I wasn?t expecting that. I guess the Connor bits are pretty amusing.

Ah, thanks for showing me the cuteness. I guess someone has a new signature :-)
Also, methinkg you have a kink with stealing clothes out of helpless little kids. Love how you never say which of the two (three?) he's actually chosen. Though, now that I remember, you like the threesome option in that case. *G*
Yes, oddly enough I like that scrawny body to be nekkid (reminds me, need to see director?s cut of Another Day in Paradise). Hey for all we know Connor dating any of them is all in Buffy?s mind.
Buffy felt adrift and this accident was anchoring her. Moreover, she needed to feel that old time connection, - Very good Buffy. I've been wondering at that since Andrew told us that the Scoobies had drifted apart, it just seemed so weird not to imagine them together.
Yeah. Oddly it?s the ONE thing I actually believed that came out of Andrew?s mouth in S5. I could see how they?d need to separate to get the job done but it would have to feel weird and sad. I know. I?ve moved enough times and left enough friends behind.
you manage such a real Connor and Giles in a single paragraph is beyond my comprehension. It was a wonder Connor thought to call before staking them, instead of just telling when and where the wakes would be. You might want to tell us HOW he found the number, though.
Glad you liked it. Yeah I FORGOT to mention Connor turned to Lorne for help. Lorne knew the number from the Dana thing. And I guess Connor?s learned to like Dad just a little since he didn?t go stake-crazy.
Faith...Connor likes his women older. - Don't we know it. It's a wonder there aren't many Connor/Illyria stories.
Ugh, now that disturbs me. Then again Illyria DID make Connor all hot and bothered. I?m not sure I?ve ever even seen Connor/Fred (to me SHE?s the closet thing Connor?s had to a mom, not Cordy)
- Of course their first conversation would be like this. Never the sentimental kind, were they? No, Angel and Connor really aren?t very sentimental. As for the karaoke thing, I was trying HARD to forget
Spike could probably bitch while comatose, - *hugs bitchy Spike* Of course he would! Love that line. I'm sure I'll be begging to steal it at one point in the future.
I won?t be surprised if that turns up as an icon some day.
Wonderful exchange. She should have scissors the first hundred times he defended either of the vampiresses.
Snort. Yeah he DOES do that doesn?t he?
You know, that would be more convincing if you didnt have a wide grin on your face. Men. - This has to be one of my favourite parts. It's just so many things. Yeah it was one of my favorites too. The story DID need some lighter touches and this was one of them. Angel seeing Connor being a real boy (and probably a lot like the boy he had been only more naked) and a real moment of tenderness between Buffy and Angel.
Oh, I loved this sososososo much.
I?m SO glad. This is one of those ones that popped out in a matter of hours. I?m happy with it.
