Much like my icon
Dec. 5th, 2007 01:38 pmit was snowing this morning when I woke up early to trundle to the ob/gyn. My one consolation for the craptacular roads (they don't believe in plowing here and my students saw a salt truck AND a snow plow both pulled over by the state highway patrol. um....) was that I figured the expectant moms wouldn't venture out in it and I wouldn't be waiting forever at the office.
Well i ended up there for 4 hours but mostly because my doc is a GOOD one. She listened to the gynelogical complaints AND the one about that sliding thing in my belly and sent me first for blood work to look at WTH is going on with the lovely hormones then sent me for a contrast dye study - CT scan of the abdomen. THAT DAY. She wasn't playing around. Naturally I had to have the dye that will kill my kidneys if I take it with my diabetic meds (so none of them for two days) AND they wanted to make sure there were no tumors in the stomach/intestine which involved drinking 32 oz's of this fizzy crap that tasted like death in a bed pan that makes you fill up with gas (well whee!)
She also looked at the scan immediately. The right side where the pain is is clear, not even a cyst on the ovaries and she agrees with me the sliding thing is my stomach sliding through the hiatal hernia into my chest (where the heart and lungs beat on it which is fun let me tell you) HOWEVER, the asymptomatic left side has a) ovarian cysts but not big enough to get excited b) a cyst and/or fat tumor in the kidney c) an adrenal tumor (which halluelia maybe we've FINALLY found why i can't lose weight and why all my hair is falling out)
there's no suspicion of cancer but I have to go for an MRI (please sneak me in asap. PLEASE so I don't have to pay for it in Jan...oh why am I whining. I have to pay my deductible anyhow).
See, this is why i don't like going to the doctors. Every time I go we find three new things wrong with me. Whimpers.
ETA - two MRI's next week. And they called with my labs. We can rule out menopause as a reason for my periods to disappear. Hmmm And being one to not let things go easily, Doc is seeing me immediately after the whole MRI dealio and i guess we can talk then about if not menopause then what (Not that I mind NOT having a period, mind you, but it is obviously not a normal thing)
ETA 2 - is it wrong to laugh at the cats when they hit the icy part of the porch and go sailing then look at me as if I'm to somehow blame?

Date: 2007-12-05 09:59 pm (UTC)It's never wrong to laugh at cats' humiliation, as long as pain and torture aren't involved. That's what we pay cats for, to act all dignified so when they play the fool, it's really funny.

Date: 2007-12-06 10:55 am (UTC)At least you have a very good doctor. Let's hope she can fix some of that abdominal malfeasance!
And I am tremendously jealous of your snow.
