ever get tired of all the family visits over the holidays? One more visit and I swear I'll cry. I'll be gone again all day with this (well they're coming here but I can't hide from them...)

A distant cousin died yesterday, not unexpectedly. I feel sad for her family to lose her over the holidays but I'm not sure what Gram thinks I need to feel about this since this woman was Mom's age. It was her mother in law who married the brother of my great grandma's third husband. THere's no blood shared here and I think I can count on one hand how many times I've seen her. I feel more sorry for a friend of my brother's (a girl I've known most of her life too) who lost her dad last week.

I tend not to feel bad about people dying unless I really liked them and had a close relationship to them. Whether they're 'family' or not doesn't make a difference to me.

"A distant cousin...."

Wow! You're family is as big as mine. I have cousins - blood relatives!! - that I've only ever seen once or twice! (And, for two or three of them, I am VERY PLEASED about that visitation record.)

If you really want to get away from them, pull the Monty Python trick. Get some stew or soup and put it in your mouth. Go into the middle of the gathering and spit it out whilst making gagging noises. It will appear as if you're tossing your cookies! Now pretend to have to barf again and run upstairs. Hide in the bathroom or in a bedroom until they leave. ;-)

Hm. That is a good idea. Next time my Idiot Cousin comes up, I will try this.

I know the feeling completely. On the 26th, I got a call, "When are you coming over?"

"...I'm not."

At least I have my own house to hide in as necessary.

Sorry about your distant cousin and the ripple effect.
