Just stuff
Aug. 6th, 2004 11:01 amManaged to forget my hemp soap in FL (enjoy ELD) and my SPlenda (damn). I get home and my brother finds a local college looking for adjuncts I apply. Today one of the BIG community colleges in Pittsburgh emails me and asks if I'm serious about being an adjunct. I'll have to say yes (though I'm thinking my name is just going into their online data bank because school starts like next week)
Having a cable modem spoiled me. THis dial up sucks. It took me over 2 hours to do what it took me 30 minutes to do in FL. Speaking of that, ELD did you speak to Chris about that interface he put in (or whatever it was) Because that computer wasn't freezing up before that. mayb it's not working right.
One of the last things ELD and I did before I left was try to watch at least some of the S5 Angel's we really wanted to see. Started with Smile Time. Lasted 30 minutes. I do not see the appeal of that episode. I was bored. ELD was disturbed. Saw Origins. Now I see what Leni was talking about with COnnor's walk. I'm watching this going did VK hurt his leg? He's limping worse than I do with my blown out knee. Oh, maybe they're trying to make Connor Reilley look clumsy. general impressions,
maybe because I had read the script a few times I was bored with it. Well maybe not bored but unimpressed. I think the problem was Connor and his family took the demon thing WAY too easily. I know it's hard to handle this. The screaming disbelief has been so overdone but it just seems unnatural they except it with a shrug and a nod. VK should never ever smile. He looks psychotic. There were things I liked, the line about 'they were supposed to fix that' in reference to Connor's liking of older women and his line about not liking his neck touched. And hey once again Wes betrays ANgel still trying to good while doing it but hey.
Thing I didn't expect to like and did Illyria. I know Joss loves Amy Acker but to me she has always shown very little acting talent (in Angel and other movies I've seen withher) I never liked Fred and Amy's abilities just worsened it. Watching her do Illyria I thought, wow where was she hiding this talent for the last three years? I enjoyed Illyria a lot. Maybe I'll quit killing her off in my Post NFA stories. I think she SHOULD keep Spike as a pet.
Watched the finale...well parts of it. For some unknown reason the tape was so soft you couldn't hear a word they were saying AND during the broadcast it was out of sync so it's like watching a dubbed foreign flick. We fast forwarded a lot of it as a result. I was so disappointed in this there aren't words for it. I could buy Wes' death even though it made me sad. Still don't buy COnnor leaving Angel but I do love the line, you drop by for coffee, it has to be the end of the world. I liked Angel sucking that guy's blood (all that power, could be how he survives this), HATED Lindsey's death and not just that it was the Cowardly Lion doing the killing. It was SO over the top melodramatic that it belonged in a silent film or something, or a death scene in Shakespeare where they keep talking ten pages after they're dead. He takes two bullets and bitches for five minutes about it. It would have been SO much more powerful if he just slumped over with a simple 'it should have been Angel' Did love the line about Angel wanting to kill the dragon. That suggested at least two stories on the drive home.
Well I'm off. I need to see my workman's comp doctor. Wish me luck. Let's see if he'll sign off on the needed paperwork.

Date: 2004-08-06 09:30 am (UTC)Reason I ask is judging from all the spyware and viruses (Virii?) I had to remove from it, it's possible there's something else there that wasn't caught. Or maybe it just has something new now. Or maybe the virus damaged a file.
Whoever has access to the machine currently should call me on the phone sometime this weekend, it's easier to work it out that way then leaving email back and forth.
No, I didn't copy the harddrive at all. Didn't have to, since all I ended up doing was adding the network card in and remove spyware, virus, and a trojan or two . . .

Zipping and emailing the documents should take a couple of minutes max, it's not a big deal at all.

Date: 2004-08-06 12:03 pm (UTC)I am surprised you didn't like Smill Time, the thing had me laughing from the pitch perfect parody of children's shows (which Ive seen ad infinitum) to wee, depressed muppet Angel. The overhanging brow! The scowl! The little leather coat! It was all good, at least for me.

Date: 2004-08-06 01:33 pm (UTC)I expected to dislike Illyria because as I said, as an actress Acker has never shown me anything. I can deal with weak acting (let's face it some of the actors on both shows are weak while others are kick butt) but I have to like a character in order to deal. Hated Fred from the moment she appeared. I did however like Illyria
Good luck!

It's okay if you don't want to take the time to learn how the software works. Just don't try to make statements on the abilities of the program until you do.
Re: As Usual,
Date: 2004-08-09 05:53 am (UTC)1) Your computer wasn't locking up. IE was locking up.
2) It's not NIC that I installed and . . .
3) A browser which is not-IE works fine. Therefore, something with IE is screwed.
Possibly related to one of the virii, trojans, and spyware which was removed.

Date: 2004-08-09 07:36 am (UTC)It may ask you if you want to import bookmarks during installation. If not, after you install select File --> Import and you'll get an option to import IE bookmarks. Sharon, take note of that one.
Also, there is a plugin for Firefox that makes it 'pretend' to be IE, which solves most problems when websites specifically look to see if you're running IE or not.
Re: As Usual,
Date: 2004-08-09 07:41 am (UTC)It's possible to save a file in, say, staroffice format and name it something like testfile.html, which may have been what was done.
Openoffice can save in a variety of formats other than HTML. I believe the latest version can also export as PDF (StarOffice does) which anybody should be able to read.
ELD asked me to save a file in a variety of formats, I'll do that tonight and forward them to her to give to whoever she wants to test out.
