Managed to forget my hemp soap in FL (enjoy ELD) and my SPlenda (damn). I get home and my brother finds a local college looking for adjuncts I apply. Today one of the BIG community colleges in Pittsburgh emails me and asks if I'm serious about being an adjunct. I'll have to say yes (though I'm thinking my name is just going into their online data bank because school starts like next week)

Having a cable modem spoiled me. THis dial up sucks. It took me over 2 hours to do what it took me 30 minutes to do in FL. Speaking of that, ELD did you speak to Chris about that interface he put in (or whatever it was) Because that computer wasn't freezing up before that. mayb it's not working right.

One of the last things ELD and I did before I left was try to watch at least some of the S5 Angel's we really wanted to see. Started with Smile Time. Lasted 30 minutes. I do not see the appeal of that episode. I was bored. ELD was disturbed. Saw Origins. Now I see what Leni was talking about with COnnor's walk. I'm watching this going did VK hurt his leg? He's limping worse than I do with my blown out knee. Oh, maybe they're trying to make Connor Reilley look clumsy. general impressions,
maybe because I had read the script a few times I was bored with it. Well maybe not bored but unimpressed. I think the problem was Connor and his family took the demon thing WAY too easily. I know it's hard to handle this. The screaming disbelief has been so overdone but it just seems unnatural they except it with a shrug and a nod. VK should never ever smile. He looks psychotic. There were things I liked, the line about 'they were supposed to fix that' in reference to Connor's liking of older women and his line about not liking his neck touched. And hey once again Wes betrays ANgel still trying to good while doing it but hey.

Thing I didn't expect to like and did Illyria. I know Joss loves Amy Acker but to me she has always shown very little acting talent (in Angel and other movies I've seen withher) I never liked Fred and Amy's abilities just worsened it. Watching her do Illyria I thought, wow where was she hiding this talent for the last three years? I enjoyed Illyria a lot. Maybe I'll quit killing her off in my Post NFA stories. I think she SHOULD keep Spike as a pet.

Watched the finale...well parts of it. For some unknown reason the tape was so soft you couldn't hear a word they were saying AND during the broadcast it was out of sync so it's like watching a dubbed foreign flick. We fast forwarded a lot of it as a result. I was so disappointed in this there aren't words for it. I could buy Wes' death even though it made me sad. Still don't buy COnnor leaving Angel but I do love the line, you drop by for coffee, it has to be the end of the world. I liked Angel sucking that guy's blood (all that power, could be how he survives this), HATED Lindsey's death and not just that it was the Cowardly Lion doing the killing. It was SO over the top melodramatic that it belonged in a silent film or something, or a death scene in Shakespeare where they keep talking ten pages after they're dead. He takes two bullets and bitches for five minutes about it. It would have been SO much more powerful if he just slumped over with a simple 'it should have been Angel' Did love the line about Angel wanting to kill the dragon. That suggested at least two stories on the drive home.

Well I'm off. I need to see my workman's comp doctor. Wish me luck. Let's see if he'll sign off on the needed paperwork.

The computer was up and running hooked up to my cable connect almost the entire time you were here.

What are you doing, using it for target practice?

I don't know. When we put it up at home it started a) freezing up (which is was NOT doing before hand sinec I was using it for Powerpoint and Excell all along) and b) the internet connection just cuts out without warning. Poof gone.

Hey did you copy and burn that hard drive onto disc or not? all the discs are unmarked and I just need to know if that still needs doing. Thanks

How long ago was it that you were using it?

Reason I ask is judging from all the spyware and viruses (Virii?) I had to remove from it, it's possible there's something else there that wasn't caught. Or maybe it just has something new now. Or maybe the virus damaged a file.

Whoever has access to the machine currently should call me on the phone sometime this weekend, it's easier to work it out that way then leaving email back and forth.

No, I didn't copy the harddrive at all. Didn't have to, since all I ended up doing was adding the network card in and remove spyware, virus, and a trojan or two . . .

No I NEEDED that hard drive (should have asked you) I have no access to those files now. Sadly all the files I burned onto cd are totally unreadable to that computer for some reason and now Ihave to email ALL of them to SHaron as is.

SHe has it. I'll tell her to call. I was using the computer all May June and part of July and it never froze up once. BUT problems wiht the internet were one of the reasons we decommissioned it.

I assume what you need is the documents on the harddrive. I'll talk to ELD about it, but if zipping them up and emailing them isn't a viable solution, we'll figure something else out.

It's possible the ride home in the trunk of your car caused a memory chip or a card or something to come loose. Easily solved.

That's what we're hoping. That computer IS old after all, going on 6 years now. I'm not sure that cheap ass Dell has winzip in fact I'm pretty sure it doesn't but I SHOULD be able to download right? No rush. I won't have that computer back up until the middle of the month.

The age of the computer isn't a concern. Your driving may have scared the hell out of it and it tried to jump out of the trunk once you hit the interstate.

Yes, you can download and install WINZIP. Even on a DELL. :)

Zipping and emailing the documents should take a couple of minutes max, it's not a big deal at all.

there was a problem with the OLD computer. Winzip wouldn't go on there no matter what we tried.

my driving scaring the computer is entirely possible. RIght now figuring out what's wrong with it is more important (just don't let that hard drive blow up first). I told SJ to callyou

I'm not surprised you like Illyria, she's way cool.

I am surprised you didn't like Smill Time, the thing had me laughing from the pitch perfect parody of children's shows (which Ive seen ad infinitum) to wee, depressed muppet Angel. The overhanging brow! The scowl! The little leather coat! It was all good, at least for me.

I honestly expected to like Smile Time I woudl have watched it all the way thru bored but Sharon couldn't stand it.

I expected to dislike Illyria because as I said, as an actress Acker has never shown me anything. I can deal with weak acting (let's face it some of the actors on both shows are weak while others are kick butt) but I have to like a character in order to deal. Hated Fred from the moment she appeared. I did however like Illyria

Good luck!

Now I see what Leni was talking about with COnnor's walk. - Yay, I'm not crazy or seeing things! S4 was all cat-walk, panther-walk and then it... wasn't. Yup, Connor is too giddy in that episode, it creeps me out.

I think she SHOULD keep Spike as a pet. - oh YES!

Yu know? When I watch Illyria I try to find Fred in her... and I can't. Only in rare glimpses, I think that's why Illyria is so likeable, she isn't Fred anymore. I mean, not only in the script, she really puts Fred aside.

And for the record and just to make COM squirm, the problem was with your windows software and nothing else, open source pinko linux software works fine on it . . .

Yeah fine. Put it on there. I don't care. SHE will when she can't get a software package that's compatible with any of the websites she uses because openoffice is NOT (except for FFN starting yesterday)

That's also not true.

Openoffice, Staroffice, and a variety of other software packages, saves HTML just fine.

It's okay if you don't want to take the time to learn how the software works. Just don't try to make statements on the abilities of the program until you do.

. . . And to add, my point was:

1) Your computer wasn't locking up. IE was locking up.

2) It's not NIC that I installed and . . .

3) A browser which is not-IE works fine. Therefore, something with IE is screwed.

Possibly related to one of the virii, trojans, and spyware which was removed.

Big shock. IE sucks. Only kept it around because mozilla and opera were somehow incompatible with the school shit. I still have Opera on the other computer but it's slow (because it's the free version???). Sharon sent me thelink to mozilla. Might try that when I get to Clyde's. QUestion. Is there an easy way to get my IE bookmarks to the new browser's bookmark area or are they actually stored in the hard drive and I can get them regardless of browser?

We couldn't get it to work. For some reason CHris could NOT use it's html to put on our site and NONE of the archives would upload it. Even when it said html on our hard drive it was unreadable to them and you had no suggestions as to why that was at the time so it was removed from the computer for that reason. It did us no good if no one but us could read it. NOW one of the archives is able to read Open Office's because the notice just went up this week

Install FireFox as opposed to Mozilla (Firefox is a Mozilla Project).

It may ask you if you want to import bookmarks during installation. If not, after you install select File --> Import and you'll get an option to import IE bookmarks. Sharon, take note of that one.

Also, there is a plugin for Firefox that makes it 'pretend' to be IE, which solves most problems when websites specifically look to see if you're running IE or not.

HTML is basically just text. So if it's unreadable, it wasn't saved as HTML.

It's possible to save a file in, say, staroffice format and name it something like testfile.html, which may have been what was done.

Openoffice can save in a variety of formats other than HTML. I believe the latest version can also export as PDF (StarOffice does) which anybody should be able to read.

ELD asked me to save a file in a variety of formats, I'll do that tonight and forward them to her to give to whoever she wants to test out.

we were using it's drop down (I think) to save it as it's various options but none of them were readable. For some reason html does not seem to be created equal. Chris can handle Corel's html no problem on our site. Microsoft's html converts into shit half the time. something about bloated codes... you'd have to ask her. There was something about the spell check we didn't like either. THere were a number of reasons we disliked that program but since it's been a few years now I can't remember them all. (I don't think it saved as .txt or .doc or something which made it totally incompatible with school which can't handle html. That school was a pain in the ass)

okay. Is that the one yuo sent sharon? If so, then that's the link I have. I'll keep that in mind (not looking like IE was the problem I was having at school. Opera was okay with SOME school stuff and not others)

Re: As Usual,

From: [identity profile] psychic-warrior.livejournal.com
So, what I'm getting out of this is it *did* save as html, but chris just didn't like the code? Unless it's anything but simple text, using a word processor to design a web page probably isn't the best solution in the first place. There are other things for that.

To read it at school, you'd probably have to save it as a word document. Or in a text format.

okay I'll play with that when I get to WI. I'll leave IE on the thing though just in case I need it for this school too. I doubt it hurts to leave it be.

Yuo'd have to ask her what the problem was. She's the one who does this for a living. I barely understand it. WHat I do know is just because something SAYS it's saving as something don't mean it's true. Word Perfect has TWO Microsoft word option that claim to save as .doc files. One does. One's unreable because it's still .wpd . Ditto with Quattro saving as Excel. Two options (different years or something) one saves, one remains quattro)

Re: As Usual,

I can understand there being two WORD save options. One should be for Word97 and above, and one for Word95.

Don't know anything about Quattro or Excel. Don't want to know.

I think that is how it's set up. 97 works. the other tells you it's saving as .doc but when you get it, it's still word perfect. I can't even fathom why. Don't want to know. I just know that you don't always get what yuo ask for.

Sigh. Lawyer's sending me for disability today. Spent all afternoon in the lawyer's office
