As I’m typing this up, my internet connection is busy not working (Of course). Well I did it. I made it to the North Woods, where the deer easily outnumber the humans. I start at the school tomorrow for my orientation. I’m oddly nervous about it, more of ‘I’m not sure I’m gonna like this’ nervous. I wish I could say I’m excited to be here but I’m more indifferent, maybe because two schools back home started showing interest in me just as I left. I just have to tell myself that it’s just for 4 months and I can do anything I set my mind to. It’s teaching experience and I need that desperately.
If it does become more than 4 months I’ll move into town. Not that 20 miles is much of a deer (well it IS given how many deer on are on the road) but here I have ONE TV station (NBC so at least I can watch Law and order.), One good country station (Hodag country) and nothing else in the alt rock genre until tonight on my 100th run to Wal-Mart when I rolled past the stereos and heard one. I ran over and memorized the call numbers.
The house had been shut up for a couple of years so I had a BIG cleaning job to do but all in all a good place to spend 4 months barring the TV thing. I still don’t have a fridge and eating out is lackluster here. Need to get that fridge. And ugh dial-up. When I get somewhere permanent, I don’t care HOW much a cable modem is, it’s worth every damn penny.
Well, there probably should be more to this but I’m exhausted and I have hundreds of emails to get to so I should get to it because I have to get in bed early to get up early. Wish me luck. Wish Evil Little Dog luck too since the hurricane has really buggered up things for her. While the hurricane didn’t do much damage (at least last I heard) she’s still without power.

I have my reasons. And shouldn't Jimmy Smits' character be dead by now?
On another note, I may be going to Indiana. We'll see. Watch these screens!

Date: 2004-08-17 08:35 pm (UTC)As a girl who's lived all her life (except for college) in the greater NYC metro area, I would slit my wrists within 5 minutes of being there. The boonies is not my cup of tea.

Date: 2004-08-17 09:31 pm (UTC)Then again, you can always eat venison. I hear roadkill is very favorful this time of year. (I shouldn't joke. This time of year is terrible around here and I'm always driving in fear of some dumbass dear colliding with my car.)

Date: 2004-08-18 08:42 pm (UTC)And THANKS (and good luck figuring out what you want to do. I always wanted to do park service. Word of warning, I just finished graduating with the whole ecology/conservation dealie and they are cutting park rangers WAY back so don't be too disappointed if you see less openings than the last time you looked)
