so mom and dad have been doing the comparative pricing on housing/taxes etc with that program Dad found AND going on the net and looking at housing.

I'd have to make 14,000 more to live as I do in Scranton area. Somehow I don't think that's in the cards (may email them and ask for a quote on that and one other burning question). studios rent for 200$ more than my two bedroom here. one bedrooms are around 850$

In Wheeling, I can rent a three bedroom bouse for 300$. Um, yeah, cheap rent (Wheeling is a bit of a depressed area) AND casinos AND tenure option....

Where the hell is Wheeling that you can rent a house for $300? Is it a crummy neighborhood or something?

Buh? Damn, the northeast is expensive, isn't it? The only way you'd find a place that cheap anywhere in New England is to go back in time a couple of decades.

Even in rural florida the mortages were less than i pay here in rent.

but yes you live in a prohibitively expensive area of the country. I nearly set up shop in Boston but prices wouldn't allow me

300 dollars? Blinks. (I live in one of the most expensive areas in the country. Not my particular house, mind you, but overall, it's crazy/)

If a college/university offers a tenure option, you can find a way to be contented there. :-)

nods, i'm being offered tenure here too.

I just fear it's tenure on the titanic. This school is tearing itself apart

Sweetie, I probably wouldn't live in a house that rented for $300. A decent house will be more expensive than that. Maybe West Liberty itself has housing that cheap, but I wouldn't count on it.

half the houses on line are that cheap. I know people with mortages that cheap. The housing market sucks right now.

still, i'm not about to live in a hovel and there's no housing period in West Liberty. i think there's 200 people there total

My mortgage is that cheap, but I wouldn't rent this place out for that amount. And I don't know what you're finding on-line or where the houses are located, but believe me, for a decent house in a nice neighborhood, you're not going to pay $300.
