Silence Drabbles
Aug. 30th, 2004 12:49 amAs if the lyrics weren't inspiration enough, my brain started chugging on the idea of silence. Here's a little Connor in silence.
Silence - Part One
She says nothing, watching the periphery in case someone is attracted to the flames. The cracking of burning wood is the only thing that breaks the silence. Connor can’t find the words. He was never good with them and now he knew nothing that could express his pain.
He had failed. His father’s body was slowly being consumed by the fire. After the sound of his weapon lopping off his father’s head, Connor wished for the silence. He wanted to be alone with his agony. The next silence, would be his joy, the quiet of Angel’s grave
Silence - Part Two
Would it be silent there under the black? Connor hoped so. He had heard silence could drive a man mad. It was better than Angel deserved. The sea was almost silent as Connor watched the monster’s coffin slowly sinking. The chug of the boat’s engine, the lapping of the water on the sides were the only sounds.
Only all was not quiet. Protestations of love echoed in Connor’s heart. The look in Angel’s eyes haunted him. Demons couldn’t love but the seeds of doubt were planted in him. With a growl, Connor uprooted them and salted the ground. Silence reigned.
Silence - Part Three
Silence, it’s overwhelming. Inside the church, even the street noise isn’t filtering in. The only sounds were Cordelia barely breathing. Connor fell at her side, willing her to speak, to wake up to hold him close. Didn’t she know how much he needed her?
In the silence, the little voices inside his head made their own noises. He buried his nose in Cordelia’s hair, breathing her in. Her comforting scent couldn’t quiet the voices. A new sound echoed in the church. It took a few moments for Connor to realize it was the soft sounds of his own tears.
