Okay so the pain got really bad, creeping into my neck and jaw making those muscles (and the occipitalfrontalis muscles) cramp. It was a great learning experience for my lab. COme here nurses, feel this muscle in my forehead, that's a cramp. Yes I'm in pain. No, go ahead poke it.

Okay poke my arm. Let's see what I can and can not feel then you tell me which nerves I impinged. it's a plexus...come on tell me (for the record they couldn't. Better learn quick, that test is on thursday)

SOooooo I hied my butt to urgent care. When I finally get in there, I tell the doc I coughed. It felt like someone slammed me in the shoulderblades. Something popped, things went numb. This HAS happened before. I DO have arthritis in my neck. I think i've impinged something in C5-7 since my arm only lifts up half way. You're probably going to give me narcotics and muscle relaxants but i'd really like strong NSAIDS instead.

Sends me for x-rays. One of my former students (since that's who you want to see you in a gown) takes them. That's when I remembered I was supposed to go for the boob squishy today (oops, must reschedule that one)

Doc comes back. 'You're right. You have a lot of spurs in your neck. It's probably impinging a nerve. You didn't break a rib and nothing is terribly out of place. Here's some narcotics (didn't want to give me NSAIDS thanks to my bad stomach) and some muscle relaxers. IF it still hurts in a week have your doc send you for an MRI. (which hell i need anyhow since this keeps happening but not to this degree)

I go to CVS and hand over my script. SHe tells me 2-3 hours. SHe's lucky I didn't ask what's so hard about shoving pills in a bottle. I said I'm in PAIN. See the hospital bracelets. I am NOT waiting that long. Want me to go to the brand new Walgreens. Bet they won't take so long. 40 minutes later I have my pills

I'm talking to mom on the phone as she tells me all about the new computer they got and the pure evil one who was sitting purring on my chest crawls up on the arm of the couch where I'm lying and suddenly wraps his paws in my hair and proceeds to try to eat me head first. If I shave the little bastard I bet I find 666 somewhere.

THen mom tells me all about this new mystery writer cop thing that sounds good. It has someone called Nathan Fillion in it. WHy does that sound familiar?

So my shoulders feel like someone is ripping them off my back. My arm is numb and my jaw hurts but i don't give a good damn. Go DRUGS.

Just curious, why did you want NSAIDs and not narcotics? I've had issues with drug abuse in the past and with my shoulder I requested NSAIDS, and they also gave me some Lidocaine patches. Wasn't quite as effective as the narcotics, but I felt better mentally not having those types of pills in my house. I hope you start to feel better soon. :3

NSAIDS actually treat some of the causes for pain (i.e. inflammation) while narcotics do diddly for the causes. They just block your reaction to pain.

Big yay for drugs (and for the antibiotic shot in my ass I got 2 days ago for strep throat).

I can understand wanting an anti-inflammatory in addition to pain meds. I'm glad the pain meds are helping. I suppose adding aspirin to whatever you're taking is a no-no.

Poor thing. Did you ever try a chiropractor? Mom swears it helps with the arthris a bit (Though she is a b it mental) and it might help the neck thing.
