“It’s for the best baby boy,” his mother whispers, her breath curling against his cheek. “Mr. Winesap’s a good man, an alchemist, like your daddy.”

Feeling tears dropping onto his skin, Roy knows she thinks he’s asleep. The little boy knows his mommy never wants him to see her cry. Roy knows they don’t have a sen to their name, that Mommy is sick but he never thought she would leave him. How could he be passed off to a stranger?

He tries to peek at her without giving away he’s not really asleep. In the darkness, he catches a glimpse of hair that used to shine like a blackbirds but had gone dull. Dark, almond-shaped eyes so like his and so unlike everyone else’s are shut as she holds him tight, stroking his hair. Roy tries not to cry, knowing that this would be the very last time his mommy ever held him close.

A few years older now, Roy still hears that whisper in his sleep. He’s a big boy now, all of seven. His master had been a good man but he’s dead now, leaving Roy all alone to fend for himself.

He wraps himself around a pillow, huddling under the blankets Mama Mustang had pulled up over him during her evening check in. He’s grateful to have found Chris Mustang, to have a new mother. Still, he misses his real Mom. All Roy has left of her is that whisper and the reality makes him weep.

How sad. I see how all of that could shape him into the Roy we see later on. I can also see some parallels between him and Ed, and how this would affect Roy's decisions regarding the boys. *needs to read the manga* Great job!
