while the first two expert reviewers really liked Machivelli Moon, the Publisher Weekly reviewer did not

Vampires and werewolves unite in an urban fantasy/mystery, centering around a vampire, Maddelena, and her cadre of lovers and allies. Set in an alternate present of Deadwood, South Dakota, and Denver, Colorado, Maddelena is launched into a complex conspiracy when one of her werewolf beaux is brutally attacked and left for dead. She and her Lestatian mentor attempt to track the villain, but the threats continue, unspooling centuries of her own history and of vampire lore. It’s a complex world, full of secret societies, highly structured vampire and werewolf political machines, but the complexity coupled with the endless onslaught of new characters and their intertwining histories makes for a confusing, rather than rich, read. Maddelena, too, fails to engage; she has, at times, been a surgeon a symphony violinist, a politician, a mother, and a hotel owner, but she alternates between curiously dull and giddily adolescent, though saddling a first-person narrator with so much expository responsibility is bound to inhibit character development. The story is not without merit, but this one is too crowded and chaotic to make an impact.

This doesn't really upset me. I know to expect it in this game. I can even see a few points in this (I'm working on that now) Maddelena is over 2000 years old. So if her being different things bothered this reviewer well...honestly what you think she'd keep one job all that time. I do note s/he did NOT mention 'whore' here which is actually key but whatever. Wh

you know what offends me about this: Calling Sulien Lestatian. If anything he's the anti-Lestat (and happy the anti-Edward too)

I don't know if I made the semi-finals. That hasn't come out yet. It's late.

And speaking of writing congrats to [livejournal.com profile] mjules on her latest sale. Way to go.

Yeah, from what I've read of it I can't see where they came up with that comparison from...

But that makes me want to read it even more. Not as a rebellious thing but the plot sounds interesting. Good luck!

I don't know if you did. I don't think I had a word program at the time but I do have crappy Open Office now. Sometimes those sites don't work on the laptop for some reason or other.

As you said, can't please everyone (after all, I'm still reeling from John Dillon being the only "likable" character). For myself, I didn't see anything of Lestat in Sulien. That's just... odd.

I get the feeling that that's the ONLY vampire the reviewer knew

yeah DIlon being likeable is still far more stunning that THIS review

Possibly, and probably only the Lestat from "Interview," no further.

I suppose I can at least see it that at least my villain is believable...

I find myself reading your posts more and more. Despite the later half of the review the beginning made me want to read your book epic much!!!

I also think that you handle criticism rather well and take it constructively as opposed to insultingly. I like how you are aware that as an author there are many things you will know and understand being that they are YOUR characters and apart of yourself that others will miss.

I always feel like such a loser when I post comments sorry v.v

p.s. I love the names you've chosen they in themselves are original and interesting. I wish you the best of luck!!

well that's cool.

I'm glad the review whet your appetite for MachiavelliMoon.

I figure I HAVE to get used to bad reviews doing this professionally. They're going to come.

Maddelena is actually my great grandomther's name. Sulien's is Welsh and the Lakota characters were based off some peopel I knew who always used their 'tribal' name only
