Mom calls me, very worried. She had a 'severe attack of heart burn and pain going through her chest from front to back.' Should she go to the ER?

Um YES.

Mom - But dad isn't home.

Me - so? get Aunt Mary to take you

Mom - she won't drive that far.

Me - Anna?

Mom - not with learning she has lung cancer today. Sharon's not home either.

Me - Go. TO. The ER

Mom - guess I could call 911.

Me - Go. TO. The ER

Mom - I'll call Dr. Sharpnak. (oh great, i do not like her doc)

Me - Go. TO. The ER

Mom - well turn on your cell phone I'll call you later.

Me - ARGH

She calls back five minutes later.

Mom - I took two prilosec I feel fine.

Me - still go

MOm - but I feel fine. I ate PB&J today that probably did it

Me- yes jelly DOES give me horrendous heart burn but not that stabbing pain. Go to urgent care

Mom - it's over in McMurray somewhere.

Me - SO?

MOm - I'm fine.

Me - you just described the classic symptoms for a heart attack in women.

Mom - I feel fine now.I'll go if I get worse

Me - you could be dead by then

Mom - I was at Grandma's when it happened. She gives me heart burn (no, really if you knew my grandma you'd know how true this was)

Me- yes she gives everyone heartburn Now GO

Mom - i just didn't want you to worry

Me i'm more worried you aren't going

Mom - I'm fine. Bye.

me - .....

My Mom called the other night and demanded that I fly to Vegas instead of driving (as I planned, because with gas at this price, it's cheaper and really, a five-hour drive is no different than arriving at the airport two hours early), because it was going to "worry her" if I drove. Huh? It's not like I haven't been driving all over the Southwest most of my life...

When I went to the ER with severe chest pain radiating up my neck and drilling me between the shoulder blades, it turned out to be...heartburn. Then again, she's not in the "too young for a heart attack" age range, like I was. I hope she at least sees her doctor. It would be better than nothing, even if you don't like the doc in question.
