i was reading Cemetery Dance and came across a passage about an old lady in the nursing home who wanted her childhood teddy back. I still have the one with me from my birth. I was thinking that I would like to take Pooky with me when I go. Then that made me very sad.

THanks brain.

I'm taking Callie and Dodger with me. Of course, they're small, they'll fit in anywhere.

I didn't get a teddy when I was born. When I was about 3 or 4 my maternal grandmother sewed a pillow for me. I have it in my closet since it is so worn and tattered that I can no longer keep it out in the open. I do have a teddy from when I was 11 or so. I think that is a nice sentiment, to have a teddy buried with you. :)

i mean it was a cheap teddy so no one would be inheriting a bear worth money. I also have a tony the tiger from the day after I was born and he's in decent shape for being 42. He's over 4 feet tall.

what color is the pillow

Ever see the pieces of fabric with patterns on them? You cut out the pieces, sew them together and you make a pillow? Well, that's my ducky. She's a yellow duck in a blue dress (gad! No wonder I have "furry" tendencies!) holding a basket of flowers. I used to sleep on her every night. When I got older and she got more and more ragged, I saved up all of my allowance for months to buy a Heart-To-Heart bear... which I still have. The ducky is in bad shape as is the bear.

I will say that I have probably ever stuffed animal that my mom ever gave me... including a kitty cat that is nearly as old as the ducky. I got her when I was really sick. She is the one that began the tradition of mom buying me a toy when I was ill. She's on my stereo. I love that thing.

yep I know what you're talking about

I too have most of my animals though I just gave a bunch that had no real sentimental meaning to them to charity this year

I had the teddy bear my dad gave me until I was in my early twenties, when its material finally deteriorated so badly it couldn't be repaired. :-(

aww. Apparently Pooky is tough. He even survived catching on fire (he fell on my nightlight)

And what a character he was - not really my cup of tea, mind you (I'm more of a D'Augusta type girl) - but surely entertaining. He was in Thunderhead, I think... and Reliquary.

Relic. It was Relic (I only know that because yeah the only one I've ever read even though I have like three more library throwaways on the shelf)
