That's the theme for the week. Little did I know I was kicking off the banned book read-off at the Davis Library on campus. Go me. But at least I had a captive audience (i.e. my friend's intro to writing class and the bullshit freshman success class {opps probably shouldn't call it bullshit}) They acted captive too, so damn bored but i had fun reading from The Fellowship of the Ring I decided on reading close to the beginning where Gandalf explains the rings and Sauron to Frodo.

My friend read from Toni Morrison's Beloved nothing like banning a nobel prize winning book (it does have some graphic violence) and one of the students read Tango Makes Three and my friend and I were both glad to see that. Tango is banned because gasp, it shows homosexual parents happily raising a child. Never mind they're penguins, never mind this really happened, couldn't have that now could we? What a thing to make into a children's book. Tango is a very sweet little story.

Got home only to grab my laundry out of the stink and got back two hours later and opened the windows. However, Product Alert Because i knew I had to vacuum all the carpets and because it was already after five, I picked up a frozen pizza, California Kitchen's roasted garlic and chicken which I've had before and it's okay (note CK's food rates very badly and I know this but it was on sale for 4.50 and i had a dollar coupon). This time the meat was SO vile that I couldn't eat it. I picked it off and gave it to Roy and HE wouldn't touch it (the neighbor's dog was less discerning)

Speaking of which Dear Roy, WTF? You haven't wanted to know me in weeks upon weeks. In fact the last four days I've had to bodily carry you in. Today you tried to get in when I came to get the laundry and I wouldn't let you. You and Skankarella ate on the porch like yuo've never seen food. Later while that dude for city council was chatting me up, you ran inside like a shot and hung out. Is it because it's cool and you know winter's coming you fickle bastard?

I had been in a relatively good mood. It's now gone and i'm wondering why i write in the first place. bah.

No, I read LotF for fun. I don't think that was college.

I was reading erotica in the college library for fun.

Are these books only banned in K-12 public schools or are they also banned at universities as well? I'm guessing 'banned' at all public funded libraries, but it just doesn't seem right to do it at an institution of 'higher learning'. *sigh* I can't believe we still ban books, period. Age appropriate levels I get. Banning makes us look ridiculous (and repressed like china), and it makes the books 10 times more interesting (and popular!).

most of the banning is at K-12 and public libraries where 'young minds' could be damaged. However, the college library, like many libraries are trying to get people to read them. Banning is idiotic. Let the parents do their own banning. that's what my parents did if they thought I was too young for a book/TV show/movie (mostly do to sex and violence and not anything else)

but yes I'm hoping my future novel gets banned. I'll sell more that way

It's odd that I read the Rings trilogy & The Hobbit back in the '70s, but now I just can't get into them. Uh.

Roy is totally playing you because it's getting cold! LOL

I tried a California Kitchen pizza once. Once. Yech.

Actually this was the first I had tried to reread the books. I was okay with it. I've done that in the past though, reread a book from my youth and go WTF was I thinking that I liked this so didn't want to spoil my memories of the Ring trilogy

Roy IS totally playing me. He was back this morning, ungrateful fleabag

CK's restaurants are decent (overly priced) but yeah that was just a lousy frozen pizza

it's pretty sad that non-fiction can be banned and ignored because someone finds gay penguins a threat
