But I've been too damn busy. Just a little pimping, check out Brother They're an Australian group that mixes Celtic, Aborginal and Rock. I adore their music but what I really wanted you all to see is their continuing contests etc to further stem cell research (no do NOT turn my LJ in box into a pro/con debate on this subject, thank you). One of the brothers is diabetic and they're looking to use stems cells to stimulate beta cells in the pancreas (as a diabetic I'm all for this). They have neat contests to promote the cause and you can win some nice stuff.

I was sad to see the passing of Christopher Reeves. Granted I've been expecting it (especially after his second appearance on Smallville). Christopher (another stem cell activist btw) was much talked about in class on monday as his death dovetailed with my spinal cord lecture. This was not how I wanted to give relevance to my class and in the process of typing this I just heard Melissa Etheridge has breast cancer. It's breast cancer awareness month. What I'd like to see is not more wearing of pink etc but a call to those running these things to be better organized. It's come to light this month that all the fund raisers etc are totally uncordinated and no one's really sure where money is going to.

Now on to things I actually have control over....there are none. My muse is out on holiday. I've stuck on a scene in Hyperion's Son. I've envisioned this scene for months. I knew exactly how it was to go but I can't get it out. WhenI'm in bed/shower/car the scene fills itself back in but I sit down to write and it's gone. Beginning to think my hippocampus has swum right out of my brain (that, for those who have let their neuroanatomy slip, is where short term memory is processed into long term)

I did not sadly get to go to the Oktoberfest this weekend. My choice. It was 7$ and I could NOT find anywhere including the Rhinelander newspaper what was going on outside of the bands. I decided I didn't need to drive 25 miles pay 7$ to drink overpriced beer and listen to oompa bands.

I did go to the Pumpkin Fest (and forgot to buy a pumpkin). I did get some maple sugar candy and a few small Christmas gifts. As expected most of the crafts were country styled. NO ONE I buy for likes that stuff myself included. But it was. It was in the Three Lakes High School. I walk in and in the lobby doorway is a glass display with a full stuffed albino deer, which after the neat, I've only ever seen one once before, I'm thinking who wants to see that every day going to class. I go inside, the entire hall is one GIANT taxidermy display with two wolves, coyotes, bears, bobcats, any kind of bird you care to name. Now my college has one too but it's the science department. I'mused to be surrounded by dead animals on display. It took me aback totally in a high school. The school had a very weird energy to it too.

I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting. Oh, as a side note, those with teen aged boys (older teen), care to share what kind of music they're into.

Oh, the Bodice Ripper awards has a reader's choice that I was totally unaware of. I'm up for some of these so if it's not too late I'd appreciate a vote tossed my way. Thanks

Thanks for adding the link about Brother, liked it and planning to purchase it. I passed it on to others, too.

yeah, CR is a great loss to society. He persevered so much, overcame so much, and yet...well, let's just say that he accomplished just what we needed him to in the time he was here. He's inspired others to keep on pushing stem-cell research and that's what's important. SIGH.
