that's how long it took us to run out of reasons why our students make us nuts. I can't h elp thinking that 20 years ago we did NOT do this, at least not to this degree. Beer made it better.

and really that's all i have to say other than to slap up some silly meme's i do every year

On the twelfth day of Christmas, cornerofmadness sent to me...
Twelve japan_girl16s drumming
Eleven spiderlings piping
Ten ladystarlightsjs a-leaping
Nine sarakats hiking
Eight redneck_gal_91s a-swimming
Seven giles a-writing
Six mysteries a-spelunking
Five co-o-o-ops
Four x-files
Three forensics
Two maes hughes
...and a science in a lordgloria.

Yes! Let's clone Hughes please! I'll take evening classes WITH Hakkai. Now there's one way to encourage perfect attendance.

Yeah, two Maes would be chaotic and possibly Armageddon worthy.

Three hours? I'm sure there's a whole evening to be filled that way, and the bar's the place to do it.

"Go to drusilla every Sunday"? Doesn't sound too good for your health.

sadly here the bars are just...terrifying and not in a good way. The only bars most of us would touch are the restaurant kind. The others are hard core criminal activity and/or supreme redneck, no woman is safe type. I miss having a GOOD bar.

I know, right. At least Dru is entertaining

Oh, what a pain. Does your uni have a staff bar? Most big universities over here do, but then perhaps US universities are better behaved?

the big universities here do have bars for the kids.

I'm at a small rural school so no. In fact it's technically a dry county. Yikes.

Ah no, this is bars specifically for staff only, so lecturers can bitch about the kids uninterrupted. University College London, where I did my PhD, has a lovely one with leather armchairs and bitter on tap (albeit served too cold). I miss it!

Dry county? So you have to drive out of county in order to find a bar wherein to bitch about students? Horrors. I didn't actually realise you got dry counties as far east as Ohio, in my head they were all places like Arizona. Most of my visits to the US have been to big cities, with the exception of the summer I spent as a bus-girl in a hotel in Yellowstone.

no we don't do that. Maybe the big school might. but we have to take it on ourselves to find a b ar here.

Most of the dry counties are in the midwest and south as far as I know. mostly in the Bible Belt.

However the dryness here is mostly ignored. I mean the kwickimart sells beer

There's always mail-order microbrew and restaurants? And you have the lakes to enjoy, right?

I'm on the opposite end of the state. I have rednecks to enjoy.

But yes there are plenty of microbreweries and wineries

In your dry county? Yes, I can see how seriously they're taking the law there. XD

it's a totally dumb ruling. THough it might just b e the town of Rio that's dry. I never did get a good answer on that (but the marathon that sells beer is still in the town...)
