It's ending with me watching the holiday episode of NCIS when suddenly like a knife to the back of the throat, my whole throat hurts. (i.e. a sinus must have come unclogged) That scares me since usually sore throats precede me getting bronchitis and/or pneumonia. Ugh.

So how did the day begin?

I had to take Naru for his first oil change and tire rotation and for warranty's sake it HAD to be at a Honda dealer. The closest one is in Portsmouth at 30 miles, Chillicothe is 40 miles and Athens about 50 miles. Naturally i select Athens since there is at least something to do there.

For some reason this oil change takes well over an hour but at least I have something to do with me (edited my brains out)

I've been told by everyone to go to the farmacy in Athens for specialty foods so I hope to get more holidays gifts there...only it doesn't have anything I couldn't have gotten in Krogers... Yeah I was helping out a smaller business and they DID have grains much cheaper than Krogers so there was that. They had the chaga mushroom tea that i saw Andy Zimmern drinking but it was over 11$ and I didn't want to pay that for somethign I've not tasted. I did want to buy the yerba mate 'mugs' but i'll wait until after christmas. I got some excellent ginger there and some rolled oats and hemp granola.

The problem with the excellent ginger? I said 'one piece to settle my stomach.' I am now SO full of ginger I'm sure it's dissolving my stomach. I did end up at Krogers and a few other stores (is it my area or what? I can't find anyone who even has many holiday decorations and what is there is cheapass plastic) I went to the chinese restaurant about an hour before the dinner rush so i was literally the ONLY person there. the crispy eggplant and tofu in garlic sauce was yummy.

Story question

Okay if you were reading a story where the main character's brother was shot and hospitalized but the cops are sure if she or the brother were the target THEN two days later the detective returns with information. Instead of telling her, he lets get go into the hotel and change to go jogging while he does at his car (???) Meanwhile after the jog and they're walking back (since the cop isn't that athletic any more), he tells her that an anonymous death threat was called in AND the person knows her hotel by name. Would you believe this scene could possibly happen and that the cop would delay this information in order to go jogging?

thank you. I just read that in Charlaine Harris' other series with Harper and Tolliver and everyone on the book club was raving about it. It is the WORST thing I've ever seen by Harris. If I wasn't trapped in a restaurant I would have just stopped reading but since i didn't want to just stare at the suishi guy for an hour i pressed on.

that scene was written and got past an editor

NCIS pissed me off. Every single time they have a case that leads them to West Virginia, all the people they encounter are idiot, dirtbag, ignorant rednecks. Goddammit, we may all be rednecks, but we're not all ignorant dirtbags. /fumes

this whole book is flat out awful. It deals with several of the same themes i'm dealing with in Beneath the Torn SKy but if any of my characters are THIS dickish I'm hoping someone will tell me so

i thought it was a joke at first. I could NOT believe this was in a published novel by a fairly decent author.

Worse, right after that she had the characters lie to the cops about something they had no reason to lie about and only served to put their friend in danger. WTF

I suppose it would be okay if there was some hidden reason that comes out later in the book ... but I've noticed the writers who've been successful for awhile not only tend to get lazy, but get away with their laziness.

that is exactly what happened here. I swear Harris pulled this story out of her butt in 2 weeks and no one even bothered to edit it. If this ends like i think it will i'll be getting the rest of her books at the library where at least I won't feel obligated to finish since i paid good money

There's a very prolific romance writer -- I can't recall her name now, but I read one of her novels once and immediately realized she'd lifted her plot -- and some scenes almost word for word -- from the movie "Backdraft". That sure explains why she turns out so many books, but where's the joy of writing?

A little ginger, I've noticed, is great. A lot, on the other hand, is like eating napalm, at least if you have a compromised digestive system (and ginger beer is liquid napalm, which sucks because I love it so).

Writing on a contract ruins popular writers. I've said this before, and what you just wrote confirms it all over again. I'm sure the writers are meeting deadlines, and unless they're extraordinarily creative, inventive and productive their stuff sooner or later starts to read like it was, well, written to meet a deadline.

this definitely felt like i t was written to meet a deadline and that's exactly what I said in my review of it. Wonder who'll lose their shit over it this time?

and yeah my digestive system is 30 degrees of wrong so my ginger addiction is a problem.
