The secretary finds me. - R wants to see you in lab. Do you have a sponge?

Me - why would I have a sponge. (Goes to see what R wants. R.'s another biology prof)

R - (after I get into the lab) LOOKEE! I just got it. (points to fat-assed tarantula in a cage). Got a sponge?

Me - why

R - want to give the spider a drink. Got a sponge?

Me - no and if I did, you wouldn't get it. Want spider dead.

R - aww but it's pretty. How good are you at sexing spiders?

me - On the bottom of my shoes and flat, they all look pretty much the same.

R-(shining light on the thing's abdomen) What do you think? Male or female.

me- it's furry.

Spider leaps on the wall of the cage.

R- wow didn't know it could hold onto plastic like that

Me - the evil Mr. Fang could, that's the spider I used to babysit in college

R - I need to find her some crickets

Me - i'll look in my garden. whatever I find you can have for her.

R - I think I'll name her Tiffany

Hee! I'm with R, tarantulas = cool. But I feel bad for Tiffany getting that bright light shone on him/her, sounds like s/he was kind of distressed by it.

The light wasn't too bright but Tiffany had just traveled in a chinese soup container thru the mail to get to us so she was probably cranky

XD Spiders sort of creep me out, especially the big ones. That did not stop me from having the spider girl at Petco (back when I used to groom there) hide a tarantula molting in the pile of paperwork that the day shift neglected to file.* I did not feel how soft her new fur felt, despite the girls insistence.

*They would always leave the paperwork in a huge pile for me to do because they were lazy, lazy, lazy. So I refused to do it and would leave the pile in the middle of everything for them to try and work around the next morning. When the spider molted and the girl brought it in to show me (why do spider freaks love showing these things off?) I had her put it under all the papers. *evil grin*

You should've watched her nearly faint at the wood spider in the bathroom at my house (that I warned her not to approach until I got the spider safely captured and outside, but nooooo, she had to go see why I was yelling, "COM, don't go in the bath, all right?").

*chuckling* When I saw the title of the entry I had this visualization of Ishte screaming and running from the room. After reading the entry I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt...she would run screaming FROM THE BUILDING!!!

I agree with you about tarantulas....and would possibly even beat Ishte in leaving the premises...but I would return with a BIG STICK!

Tiffany is not the name for a spider. Tiffany is what every third person names their female Husky. Ask Cat_Scarlet about that.

I like tarantulas. A friend of mine had one. This guy she knew went in the military and she was caring for his... he named it "Himmler, you know, the desert fox". I had her tell him that no, Himmler was the leader of the SS. Rommel was the "desert fox". All moot, really. After all, Himmler was an evil little bastard - like a spider - he just wasn't in Africa.

And if any/all of that bored you, my condolences. History geek as well as biology/animal geek. :S
